''Charly'' (marketed and stylized as ''CHAЯLY'') is a 1968 American science fiction drama film directed and produced by Ralph Nelson and written by Stirling Silliphant. It is based on '' Flowers for Algernon'', a science-fiction short story (1958) and subsequent novel (1966) by Daniel Keyes. The film stars Cliff Robertson as Charly Gordon, an intellectually disabled adult who is selected by two doctors to undergo a surgical procedure that triples his IQ as it had done for a laboratory mouse that underwent the same procedure. The film also stars Claire Bloom, Lilia Skala, Leon Janney, Dick Van Patten and Barney Martin. Robertson had played the same role in a 1961 television adaptation titled " The Two Worlds of Charlie Gordon," an episode of the anthology series '' The United States Steel Hour''. "Charly" is the debut single released by the British electronic act the Prodigy, later included on their debut album, ''Experience'' (1992), although the version featured on the album is the significantly different "Trip into Drum & Bass" remix. It was released in the UK on 12 August 1991 through XL Recordings on vinyl, CD and cassette tape format. Almost a year later, it was released as a double A-side single with " Everybody in the Place" in the United States on 18 June 1992 through Elektra Records on CD, digipak and maxi-single format. Charly-sur-Marne (, literally ''Charly on Marne'') is a commune in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France. An old fortified city dating from the 9th-century Burgundy, it was renamed from Charly in 2006. Geography The old city lies to the north of the Marne. The river has moved south through accretion since the town was originally built. Across the river are the villages of Nogent-l'Artaud and Pavant. Charly is a Mexican sports equipment manufacturing company headquartered in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. It was founded in 1949 and is one of the largest sportswear companies in Mexico and is the exclusive partner of Skechers, allowing them to sell their shoes within Mexico. History The company was founded in 1949, in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico as a small shoe company named "Campanita" ("Little Bell" in Spanish), that originally only sold baby shoes hence its name. It wasn't until 1977 that the company decided to expand its business and started offering sneakers for other ages and changed its name to "Charly". In 2010, Charly struck a deal with Skechers and became the official distributor of their shoes after Skechers had left the Mexican market. Jack Weyland
Jack Arnold Weyland (born 1940) is a retired professor of physics at Brigham Young University–Idaho (BYU–Idaho) and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a prolific and well-known author of fiction for LDS audiences, including many novels and short stories, mostly placed in contemporary settings. His novel '' Charly'' was made into a feature film in 2002. Biography Weyland was born in Butte, Montana. He graduated from Billings Senior High School and then attended Montana State University where he majored in Physics. Upon graduating he served a mission for the LDS Church in New York and Pennsylvania. After completing his mission he went to BYU and received his Ph.D. in Physics. While attending BYU, Weyland decided to take an elective course in creative writing. After a few weeks Weyland realized he was in trouble; he was not a very good writer.
