Charles O. Wright
Charles Orson F. Wright (April 13, 1873 – March 28, 1922) was a Canadian provincial politician from Alberta. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1921 to his death in 1922 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. Political career Wright ran for a seat to the Albert Legislature in the 1921 Alberta general election as a United Farmers candidate. He defeated incumbent James Turgeon to pick up the Ribstone electoral district for his party. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. Since 2012 the Legislative Assembly has had 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. James Gray Turgeon
James Gray Turgeon (October 7, 1879 – February 14, 1964) was a broker, soldier, and provincial and federal level politician from Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1913 to 1921 sitting with the Alberta Liberal caucus in government. During that time he also served in World War I. Turgeon had a long career in federal politics. He served as a Member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1947 and he also served as a Canadian Senator from 1947 to his death in 1964 sitting with the federal Liberal caucus in both houses. William Farquharson (politician)
William George Farquharson was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1922 to 1935 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. Political career Farquharson ran for nomination to stand as the United Farmers candidate in a by-election held in the electoral district of Ribstone. He won the nomination race which proved to be controversial because delegates at the time felt that the nomination should go to the deceased Member Charles Wright's wife who was sister to former Premier Charles Stewart. The delegates who disagreed with the outcome of the race were dismayed because they felt that the nomination of Mrs. Wright had been railroaded to prevent her from contesting the nomination. 1921 Alberta General Election
The 1921 Alberta general election was held on July 18, 1921, to elect members to the 5th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Liberal government is replaced by the United Farmers of Alberta. It was one of only five times that Alberta has changed governments. Charles Stewart (premier)
Charles Stewart (August 26, 1868 – December 6, 1946) was a Canadian politician who served as the third premier of Alberta from 1917 until 1921. Born in Strabane, Ontario, in then Wentworth County (now part of Hamilton), Stewart was a farmer who moved west to Alberta after his farm was destroyed by a storm. There he became active in politics and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the 1909 election. He served as Minister of Public Works and Minister of Municipal Affairs—the first person to hold the latter position in Alberta—in the government of Arthur Sifton. When Sifton left provincial politics in 1917 to join the federal cabinet, Stewart was named his replacement.
