Charles Davidson (politician)
Sir Charles William Davidson KBE (14 September 1897 – 29 November 1985) was an Australian politician. He was deputy leader of the Country Party from 1956 to 1963 and represented the party in federal parliament from 1946 to 1963. He served as Postmaster-General of Australia (1956–1963) and Minister for the Navy (1956–1958) in the Menzies Government. Early life Davidson was born on 14 September 1897 in Toowong, Queensland. He was the third child of Marion (née Perry) and Alexander Black Davidson. His mother born in England and his father in Scotland. Davidson attended Townsville Grammar School until 1914 and then found work as a stockman in North Queensland. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in February 1916 and served on the Western Front with the 42nd Battalion. He was wounded in action in September 1918 and returned to Australia. Charles Peers Davidson
Sir Charles Peers Davidson (January 1841 – January 29, 1929) was a Canadian lawyer and judge. Born in Huntingdon, Lower Canada to Capt. Alexander Davidson and Marion Peers, Davidson was educated at McGill University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1863, a Master of Arts degree in 1867, a Bachelor of Civil Law degree in 1873, and a D.C.L. in 1875. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. from McGill in 1912. He was appointed to the Quebec Bar in 1864 and was made a Queen's Counsel in 1876. Charles fathered seven children by his wife, Alice Harriet Mattice (aunt to the namer of Mattice-Val Côté), including Cam and Shirley Davidson (who both won the Stanley Cup) and Thornton Davidson. Tragically both Shirley and Thornton would die by drowning, in 1907 and 1912, respectively — the latter in the RMS ''Titanic'' disaster, drowning with his father-in-law, Charles Melville Hays. Squadron Leader Charles Robert Davidson MC (1896 – 21 May 1936) was a Scottish World War I flying ace credited with six aerial victories. Biography World War I Having served as a cadet in the Officers Training Corps Davidson was commissioned as a temporary second lieutenant in the Highland Light Infantry on 17 October 1914. He was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps in March 1916, initially as an observer, before being appointed a flying officer on 5 June 1917. Davidson was posted to No. 14 Squadron in the Middle East, scoring his first victory with them, by driving down an enemy observation plane out of control at Beit Hanun on 23 September 1917, while flying a Vickers Bullet. He then transferred to No. 111 Squadron when it was founded as the fighter unit for the Middle East, and scored his second win on 4 October in a two-seater Bristol F.2 Fighter, which he also used for four more wins, between 17 and 29 December 1917. Charles Findlay Davidson
Charles Findlay Davidson OBE FRSE FGS MIMM (16 July 1911 - 1 November 1967) was a Scottish geologist. He served as Vice President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He was Assistant Curator to the Museum of Practical Geology in London and Chief Geologist of the British Geological Survey. Life He was born in Monifieth in northern Scotland on 16 July 1911, the son of John Davidson. His early education was at Morgan Academy in Dundee. He studied Geology and Mineralogy at the University of St Andrews, graduating with a first-class honours BSc in 1933. The university later awarded him an honorary doctorate (DSc) in 1942. In 1934 he got a post as Assistant Curator within the Geology Section of the Natural History Museum at South Kensington. In 1935 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Charles Davidson has been the Bishop of Guyana since 2016. Davidson was born in Mackenzie, Linden, educated at Mackenzie High School, Government Technical Institute in Electrical Craft Practice and at Codrington College, Barbados and University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.
