Charles Bernat
Charles Auguste Bernat (5 May 1876 – 28 December 1948) was a French footballer who co-founded Club Français in 1892, with whom he won the 1896 USFSA Football Championship. Early life and education Charles Bernat was born in Paris on 5 May 1876, as the son of Pierre Jean Baptiste Bernat (1849–1902) from Manhac and Marie Zurbuchen (1847–1905) from Bern, Switzerland. As the son of a well-off family from the wealthy districts of Paris, he was sent to Britain for a language study trip, doing so at the Catholic St Joseph's College, Dumfries, Scotland, where he developed a deep interest in football, and where he might have met José María Barquín and Enrique Goiri, the latter being just one year younger than him, both of whom being fellow football enthusiasts from the European mainland. The Union of French Athletic Sports Societies () was a sports governing body in France. During the 1890s and early 1900s it organised numerous sports including athletics, cycling, field hockey, fencing, croquet, and swimming. However it is perhaps best known for being the principal governing body of both football and rugby union until it was effectively replaced by the French Football Federation and the French Rugby Federation. The USFSA rejected any form of professionalism and were strong advocates of amateur sport. 1897 USFSA Football Championship
The 1897 USFSA Football Championship was the 4th staging of the USFSA Football Championship. It was played on neutral grounds, in a league system with Standard Athletic Club being proclaimed champions of France after beating The White Rovers in a play-off title decider having finished level on 14 points. Table Play-off This championship was extremely competitive, in fact, it resulted in a draw as Standard AC and The White Rovers finished tied on 14 points, which meant that the title had to be decided in a playoff match that was held a few days later. Standard AC beat White Rovers 3–2, but the result of that game was canceled and the game had to be replayed. Despite the second chance, however, Rovers did not show up to play this game, and Standard was proclaimed champions of France. Marcel Lambert (1876 – unknown) was a French footballer who played as a forward and who competed in the football tournament at the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, winning a silver medal as a member of the USFSA Olympic team representing France, which was primarily made up of Club Français players. Early life Marcel Lambert was born in 1876, and he had a younger brother, André François Leonard Lambert, born on 20 February 1877, and who died from tuberculosis at his home at 173 ''rue de Vaugirard'' in the 15th arrondissement of Paris on 8 September 1901, at the young age of 24.
