Chaka Project
Chaka Project (Amharic: ጫካ ፕሮጀክት) is an ongoing urban planning project and part of Addis Ababa City Corridor Project, known as Smart City Project launched on 21 May 2022. The project encompasses the construction of National Palace, residencies, resorts, artificial lake and renovation of forest in Yeka sub-city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Landed over 503 hectare, the project incorporates roads stretched over 29 km. A contractor named "e-tollo" undertook the construction with 500 billion birr costing, becoming the second high investment project after the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Amharic is an Ethio-Semitic language, which is a subgrouping within the Semitic branch of the Afroasiatic languages. It is spoken as a first language by the Amhara people, and also serves as a lingua franca for all other metropolitan populations in Ethiopia. The language serves as the official working language of the Ethiopian federal government, and is also the official or working language of several of Ethiopia's federal regions. Addis Ababa City Corridor Project
The Addis Ababa City Corridor Project, also known as Smart City Project, is an ongoing urban planning project in the city of Addis Ababa initiated by the Addis Ababa City Administration in December 2022 to upgrade key routes and improve connectivity among the corridors. Due in 2025, the project aims to expand metropolis that incorporates the construction of bicycle routes, spacious pedestrian walkways, better roads, parks, libraries, and additional housing. The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority awarded three million birr contract to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and the World Bank, the latter previously contracted since 2016. Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD or TaIHiGe; , , ), formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as the Hidase Dam (, ), is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia. The dam is in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about east of the border with Sudan. Constructed between 2011 and 2023, the dam's primary purpose is electricity production to relieve Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and to export electricity to neighbouring countries. With an installed capacity of 5.15 gigawatts, the dam is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa and among the 20 largest in the world. The first phase of filling the reservoir began in July 2020 and in August 2020 the water level increased to 540 meters (40 meters higher than the bottom of the river which is at 500 meters above sea level). The National Palace (), formerly Jubilee Palace, is a palace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is an official residence of President of Ethiopia since the Derg government. Prior to the date, it was the house of Emperor Haile Selassie until the 1974 coup d'état. History The palace was built in 1955 and named Jubilee to mark the Silver Jubilee of Emperor Haile Selassie. After a coup attempt in the Guenete Leul Palace in 1960, the Emperor made the Jubilee Palace his main residence. However, the seat of government remained at the Imperial Palace. In 1957, it has been called the Ministry of Imperial Court, also known as "Ye Gebi Ministry". The palace was expanded and doubled in size between 1966 and 1967.
