Central Radio is a British Independent Local Radio serving Blackpool, The Fylde, City of Preston, Lancashire, Preston, Leyland, Lancashire, Leyland, Chorley, Blackburn and Borough_of_Burnley, Burnley areas of Lancashire which covers approximately 981,000 adults. The station launched on 25 September 2008, having changed its name prior to launch from Proud FM, derived from ''Proud Preston'' on the City of Preston, Lancashire, city shield to Central Radio in order to better reflect the transmission area. Ownership history UTV Central Radio launched on 25 September 2008. Following Ofcom relaxations on local programming requirements, the station began taking UTV Radio's networked evening and overnight shows in late March 2009. Preston () is a city on the north bank of the River Ribble in Lancashire, England. The Bee was an Independent Local Radio station serving southern and eastern parts of Lancashire, England. On Friday 27 May 2016, The Bee merged with its sister Lancashire station 2BR. The station was owned and operated by UKRD and broadcast from studios at Clayton-le-Moors in Accrington. History ''The Bee'' initially broadcast to the Blackburn, Darwen and Accrington areas under RSL licences in 2001 and 2002, before winning a permanent licence in December 2004. Heart is a network of thirteen independent adult contemporary radio stations in the United Kingdom, broadcasting a mix of local and networked programming, although only the stations in Scotland and Wales still have their own shows. Rother FM
Rother FM was an Independent Local Radio station serving the English town of Rotherham. The station was on air from 2006 until it was closed in 2020 by owners Bauer so that the frequency could be used to broadcast Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire. Studios and coverage Rother FM was originally based in Rotherham from its studios at Aspen Court in Templeboroug, but later moved to Doncaster as part of cost saving measures. It covered the Rotherham Borough from its transmitter at Boston Castle, although it could easily be heard in neighbouring areas such as Sheffield and Barnsley. Background Prior to being awarded the licence by Ofcom, Rother FM broadcast two Restricted Service Licence broadcasts from the Carlton Park Hotel. Peak FM was an Independent Local Radio station serving north Derbyshire. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. Coverage area Peak FM's coverage area included the towns of Alfreton, Bakewell, Bolsover, Clay Cross, Dronfield, Matlock, Pinxton, Ripley, Shirebrook, South Normanton and Staveley. Southern districts of the City of Sheffield were also included, though the topography of the area made reception unreliable in certain parts. History ''Signal Radio'' began broadcasting at 6a.m. on Monday 5 September 1983. Greatest Hits Radio Bolton & Bury (formerly Tower FM) is an Independent Local Radio station serving the Bolton and Bury areas of Greater Manchester. Following its sale to Bauer Radio, the station was closed and merged with the Greatest Hits Radio network in September 2020. Overview The radio station was given the name ''Tower'' as a local link to both towns in the station's coverage area; Turton Tower near to Bolton and Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill at Ramsbottom near Bury. Originally an RSL (restricted service licence) radio station, the team behind the project won the full-time licence and the station began broadcasting on 20 March 1999. Smooth Lake District is an Independent Local Radio station for the Lakes, owned and operated by Global and part of the Smooth network. Overview Originally known as Lakeland Radio, the station broadcasts from transmitters at Kendal on 100.1 MHz, the western side of Lake Windermere on 100.8 MHz and Keswick Forest on 101.4 MHz. Originally licensed to serve the South Lakes, the station's coverage area extended northwards on 23 April 2013 when it began broadcasting to Keswick and surrounding villages.
