Central Football (New Zealand)
Central Football is one of six federations of New Zealand Football, representing regions of Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatū, Hawke's Bay and Gisborne. History While New Zealand Football is the governing body, unlike other sports in New Zealand, the funding model for football means each seven regional federations look after football in their area themselves, only following New Zealand Football's plan as they see fit. For the local federations, the clubs fund the federation with the rest of the money coming from Sport New Zealand funding and about three per cent from New Zealand Football. The region has also provided a women's representative team for the New Zealand Women's National League from its inaugural season in 2002 onwards. Park Island, Napier
Park Island is the largest sports complex in Napier, New Zealand, Napier, New Zealand. It hosts clubs and facilities for association football (soccer), cricket, hockey, netball and rugby union. It includes Bluewater Stadium, a multi-purpose stadium that has a capacity of 5,000 people and opened in 1985. The stadium is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Napier City Rovers FC, Napier City Rovers and Hawke's Bay United FC, Hawke's Bay United. Gisborne Thistle AFC
Gisborne Thistle AFC is an association football club based in the city of Gisborne, in the North Island of New Zealand. For many years, the club played second-fiddle to neighbours Gisborne City (with whom they share the Childers Road Reserve ground). Their record includes appearances in the latter rounds of the Chatham Cup on numerous occasions, their best performances coming in 1970 and 1971 when they reached the fifth round. Thistle joined the Central Federation League in 2005, winning the competition that same season and reached the Central League playoffs losing to Stop Out. The decision to withdraw from the league was taken in order to consolidate the team and to explore the concept of merging with City to form a new amalgamated "Team Gisborne". WaiBOP Football, also known as Waikato Bay of Plenty Football, is one of six federations of New Zealand Football, representing regions of Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupō, Thames/Coromandel and Waikato. History Waikato/B.O.P. was founded in 2002, to represent the region for the New Zealand Women's National League from its inaugural season in 2002 until 2019. In 2021, the Northern franchise teams was replaced for more of a club based competition, causing the WaiBOP United is dissolve. WaiBOP United was founded in 2004 as a conglomerate of various Waikato area clubs, in order to form a strong regional franchise team, and WaiBOP United was one of the eight competing teams. Waitara Soccer Club is an association football club from North Taranaki, New Zealand. Its home ground and clubrooms are at Manukorihi Park in the town of Waitara adjacent to the Waitara River. In its first year the Waitara club won the Julian Cup and with it the 1905 Taranaki Championship. In September 1905 the champion Waitara side played a match against Corinthians, the touring Auckland champions, at the Camp Reserve, Waitara. Waitara has competed for the Chatham Cup, with their best performance coming in the 1965 tournament, when they reached the fifth round. The 1965 cup run included wins against Spotswood College, Taranaki champions Moturoa, Whanganui champions Wanganui United, before being defeated by Hawke's Bay champions Napier Rovers. Stratford AFC is an association football club from New Zealand. Its home ground and clubrooms are at Swansea Park in the town of Stratford, Central Taranaki. Stratford AFC was established in April 1908 and joined the Taranaki Association Football Union in that year. The club won the Taranaki Championship (Julian Cup) four times before 1965. The 1934 season for the Stratford club is notable by winning both the Taranaki Championship and Duff Rose Bowl while remaining undefeated in both competitions. Hāwera FC are a New Zealand association football club based in Hāwera, in the South Taranaki region of the North Island. Its home ground is Turuturu Park. The Hāwera Association Football Club was founded in April 1906. Hāwera won the original Taranaki Championship and Julian Cup five times, in 1908, 1922, 1923, in 1931 shared the title with Albion AFC and 1937. Hāwera entered the Chatham Cup for the first time in 1950 and were knocked out in the first ever Taranaki preliminary final. Whanganui Athletic FC are an association football team based in the New Zealand North Island city of Whanganui. They are traditionally the strongest team from the city, and played in the top flight of New Zealand football in both league and cup competitions.
