Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. (CME) is a media and entertainment company that operates television channels in seven geographic areas: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Romania and Moldova, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Until its acquisition by PPF Group N.V. in October 2020, the company was listed on NASDAQ and Prague Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CETV. It has since been delisted. History Central European Media Enterprises Ltd. was co-founded in 1991 by Americans Ronald Lauder and Mark Palmer in Germany as CEDC GmbH (Central European Development Corporation), and later changed its name and reincorporated in the Netherlands as Central European Media Enterprises (CME). Ivan Roubal
Ivan Roubal (12 May 1951 – 29 June 2015) was a Czechoslovak serial killer who was convicted of five murders. Life Youth Ivan Roubal studied at an agricultural school and graduated in 1970. He worked at the Czechoslovak State Railways as a junior railroad engineer, train operator, worker at a heat-only boiler station, woodcutter and zootechnician. He married in 1973, his son being born the following year (he died in a traffic incident in 2012). In the late 1980s, he briefly worked for the Jehovah's Witnesses. However, his expectations were not fulfilled, so he left before the revolution began and devoted himself to mysticism and occultism. He later extended his religious engagement to the Catholic Church. Originally launched in the Czech Republic in 2011 as a free archive of programs produced by every national television channel owned by CME and a platform for live broadcasting of original programming and sports broadcasts, the service expanded through Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. BTV (stylised as bTV) is the first private national television channel in Bulgaria. Owned by bTV Media Group, part of Central European Media Enterprises, and commanding a 37% market share, it is reportedly the television channel with the largest viewing audience in the country. The network was previously owned by Balkan News Corporation, part of News Corporation. On February 18, 2010, after months of negotiations, News Corp announced that it would sell 94% of bTV (along with bTV Comedy and bTV Cinema) to Central European Media Enterprises.
