Ced Hovey
Cedric John Hovey (12 July 1918 – 19 February 2014) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong Football Club, Geelong in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Hovey, who came from Modewarre Football Club, Modewarre, was runner-up in the Geelong seconds best and fairest award for the 1944 season. Mostly as a centreman, Hovey made 10 appearances with the senior side in the 1945 VFL season, debuting at the age of 26. He didn't play VFL football in 1946 and instead captained the Geelong seconds. In 1947 he was cleared to Geelong West Football Club, Geelong West, in the Ballarat Football League. At Geelong West, Hovey was a best and fairest winner and captain-coached the club in 1948. Buangor
Buangor is a town in western Victoria. It is about west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the 2021 census, Buangor had a population of 112. Buangor Post Office opened on 25 March 1863. The town has a primary school, which was built in 1878, and had an enrolment of 19 students in 2011. Buangor railway station, on the Ararat railway line, was closed in 1981. The Ballarat Football League (BFL) is an Australian rules football competition that operates in the Ballarat region of Victoria (state), Victoria. The competition formed in 1893 as the Ballarat Football Association and was renamed Ballarat Football League in 1908 and was briefly known as the Ballarat-Wimmera Football League between 1934 and 1936. Jim Hovey
James Henry Lawrence Hovey (15 August 1922 – 28 March 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Hovey, a back pocket player, arrived at Geelong from Modewarre and debuted in 1946, when he appeared in every game from round seven. He played 17 games in 1947 and gathered all of his five career Brownlow Medal votes that year, then made a further 11 appearances in 1948. Following his career at Geelong, Hovey coached in country Victoria, first at Wimmera Football League club Murtoa in 1949, before being appointed coach of Mooroopna in 1950. Hovey kicked two goals for Shepparton when they defeated Tatura in the 1951 Goulburn Valley Football League grand final. Ron Hovey
Ronald Clive Hovey (25 August 1932 – 6 January 2015) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Hovey played in the 1947 Shepparton Boys Football Club's Central Goulburn Valley Football League premiership team as a 15-year-old before moving to Geelong to play in the Geelong Under-19's side in 1948. Hovey was a regular in the Geelong backline during the 1950s and would sometimes push into the midfield. He was a member of Geelong's 1951 and 1952 premiership teams. Hovey, who finished equal seventh in the 1959 Brownlow Medal, was captain of Geelong in 1960, his final season. The Geelong West St Peters Football Club, nicknamed the Roosters, was an Australian rules football club that last competed in the Geelong Football League (GFL) from 1989 until the end of the 2016 season. Prior to its merger with St Peters Football Club in 1989, the club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1963 until 1988. 1945 VFL Season
The 1945 VFL season was the 49th season of the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 21 April until 29 September, and comprised a 20-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Carlton Football Club for the seventh time, after it defeated by 28 points in the 1945 VFL Grand Final.
