Cebu City Council
The Cebu City Council (Filipino language, Filipino: Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Cebu) is the legislature of Cebu City, Philippines. The legislative body is composed of 18 councilors, with 16 councilors elected from Cebu City's two Legislative districts of Cebu City, councilor districts and two elected from the ranks of barangay (neighborhood) chairmen and the Sangguniang Kabataan (youth councils). The council's Chairperson, presiding officer is the vice-mayor (elected by the city). The council is responsible for creating laws and ordinances under the jurisdiction of Cebu City. Although the Mayor of Cebu City, mayor can veto proposed bills, the council can override the veto with a two-thirds supermajority. Dondon Hontiveros
Donaldo "Dondon" Cabañes Hontiveros (born June 1, 1977) is a Filipino politician and former professional basketball player and coach. He has been serving as vice mayor of Cebu City since 2024 by virtue of succession, due to the suspension of Mayor Mike Rama wherein Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia assumed the mayorship. Hontiveros had previously served as vice mayor of Cebu City from 2021 to 2022 also by virtue of succession due to the death of Mayor Edgardo Labella wherein Vice Mayor Mike Rama assumed the mayorship. The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is the local legislature, legislative body of a Philippine city, city government in the Philippines. Cockfight
Cockfighting is a blood sport involving domesticated roosters as the combatants. The first documented use of the word gamecock, denoting use of the cock as to a "game", a sport, pastime or entertainment, was recorded in 1634, after the term "cock of the game" used by George Wilson, in the earliest known book on the sport of cockfighting in ''The Commendation of Cocks and Cock Fighting'' in 1607. Florencio Urot
Florencio Urot (1904 – November 19, 1975) was a Filipino politician and lawyer who served as the mayor of Cebu City from September to December 1971. Prior to becoming mayor, he served as a member of the Cebu City Council from 1940 to 1971. Urot was born in Tabogon, Cebu. He later became a police chief of his town and pursued a law degree in college. After which, he moved to Cebu City where he was later elected as a member of the city council on December 10, 1940, along with seven other members. He went on to serve as city councilor for 35 years. As then mayor Eulogio Borres and his vice mayor had to resign from their respective positions as both sought other elective positions, Urot as first-ranked councilor became mayor on September 13, 1971, and served for 108 days until December 31, 1971. The ''Mayor of Cebu City'' () is the chief executive of the government of Cebu City in the Philippines. The mayor leads the city's departments in executing ordinances and delivering public services. A Sangguniang Kabataan (abbreviated as SK; ) is a community council that represents the youth in a barangay in the Philippines. Established to provide young people with a platform for civic engagement and participation in Local government in the Philippines, local governance, the SK is composed of elected officials aged 18 to 24, including a chairperson and several councilors. Its primary mandate is to initiate, plan, and implement programs, projects, and activities that promote the welfare and development of youth within the barangay. Under the SK Reform Law of 2016, or Republic Act No. 10742, the age requirement for SK officials was raised from 15–17 years old to 18–24 years old to ensure legal accountability and capacity to enter into contracts.
