Catherine Talty Kenny
Catherine Talty Kenny was an American female activist and politician. She was the vice president of the Tennessee Equal Suffrage Association, Inc. and later elected as the president of Tennessee League of Women Voters. Life and career Kennedy was born in 1874 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Catherine grew up with five siblings, in a poor and religiously segregated part of town. Her father died in a yellow fever epidemic in 1878. Catherine's widowed mother struggled to support her six children working as a seamstress and Catherine eventually left school and worked odd jobs to help support the family. In 1899, Catherine married John M. Kenny from Atlanta, Georgia. They relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where his work for a wholesale coffee company and local connections led to an opportunity to open a Coca-Cola bottling company franchise. National American Woman Suffrage Association
The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) was an organization formed on February 18, 1890, to advocate in favor of women's suffrage in the United States. It was created by the merger of two existing organizations, the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) and the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA). Its membership, which was about seven thousand at the time it was formed, eventually increased to two million, making it the largest voluntary organization in the nation. It played a pivotal role in the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which in 1920 guaranteed women's right to vote. Susan B. Anthony, a long-time leader in the suffrage movement, was the dominant figure in the newly formed NAWSA. Abby Crawford Milton
Abby Crawford Milton (6 February 1881 – 2 May 1991) was an American suffragist and supercentenarian. She was the last president of the Tennessee Equal Suffrage Association. She traveled throughout Tennessee making speeches and organizing suffrage leagues in small communities. In 1920, she, along with Anne Dallas Dudley and Catherine Talty Kenny, led the campaign in Tennessee to approve ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution."Services For Mrs. Dudley To Be Held Thursday".
