Castlepoint is a shopping centre in Strouden Park, Bournemouth, Strouden Park, Bournemouth, Dorset, in the United Kingdom, occupying a site containing around 40 shops, including major retailers such as Marks & Spencer, New Look (company), New Look, H&M, Asda, Sainsbury's, and B&Q. It is situated north-east from the centre of town, off Castle Lane West on the former site of The Hampshire Centre. History The centre opened to the public on 27 October 2003, following a major redevelopment of the site, which had previously been occupied by The Hampshire Centre for around 35 years. Construction of the centre, undertaken by Kier Group, took over two years and cost some £275 million. The annual Pancake Race takes place to raise money for good causes each year. Principles was a UK-based fashion clothing retailer founded in 1984 that went into administration in 2009. Following this the brand continued to be used by British retailer Debenhams. History Foundation and early years The firm was launched by the Burton Group (later the Arcadia Group) as an attempt to capitalise on the new modern trends in fashion; the mid-1980s was the boom era for the yuppie, a new upmarket cultural movement, and power dressing was a key trend: at the time, the Group's ladies' fashion operations (chiefly Dorothy Perkins) were more mainstream and traditional. Lunn Poly was a large chain of travel agents in the United Kingdom. TUI Travel acquired Lunn Poly in 2003, and by the end of 2004 had retired the brand absorbing it within the wider Thomson Travel group. The Link was an internet based mobile phone and communications retailer in the United Kingdom. It was owned by Dixons Retail, the United Kingdom's largest consumer electronics retail group, and traded online through a dedicated retail website, which in addition to mobile phones also offered satellite navigation systems and broadband Internet services.
