Cassian Sakowicz
Cassian Sakowicz, also known as Kasjan Sakowicz, (1578, Podteliszu near Lubaczów – 1647, Krakow) was a Polish-Ruthenian (Ukrainian) Orthodox activist and, later, a Catholic theologian, writer, and polemicist. Biography Cassian Sakowicz was born in family of an Orthodox priest as Kalikst Isakowicz. He was born in a town of PodteliszDzyuba, O. Cassian Sakowicz (САКОВИЧ КАСІЯН)'. Encyclopedia of History of Ukraine. (today village Potelych, Lviv Oblast), Belz Voivodeship (Palatinatus Belzensis). He finished the Zamojski Academy and Jagiellonian University at the ruler's court in Przemysl, under King Athanasius' protection. Sakowicz was a private teacher of Adam Kisiel and an activist of the Enlightenment movement of Orthodox brotherhood. Sakowicz was the rector of the Orthodox brotherhood school in Kyiv (predecessor of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy) from 1620 to 1624 where he taught poetry, rhetoric and philosophy. Ruthenian Uniate Church
The Ruthenian Uniate Church (Belarusian: Руская Уніяцкая Царква; Ukrainian: Руська Унійна Церква; la, Ecclesia Ruthena unita; pl, Ruski Kościół Unicki) was a particular church of the Catholic Church in the territory of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was created in 1595/1596 by those clergy of the Eastern Orthodox Church who subscribed to the Union of Brest. In the process, they switched their allegiances and jurisdiction from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople to the Holy See. The formation of the church led to a high degree of confrontation among Ruthenians, such as the murder of the hierarch Josaphat Kuntsevych in 1623. Petro Konashevych-Sahaidachny ( uk, Петро Конашевич-Сагайдачний; pl, Piotr Konaszewicz-Sahajdaczny; born about 1582 in Kulchytsi, today Sambir Raion – 20 April 1622 in Kyiv) was a Ukrainian Cossack political and civic leader, Hetman of Zaporozhian Cossacks from 1616 to 1622, a military leader of Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth both on land and sea. While being a hetman, he transformed the Cossack Host from an irregular military formation into a regular army. Under his leadership, the Cossacks, the Orthodox clergy and peasants of Ukraine began to emerge as a united nation. His troops played a significant role in the Battle of Khotyn against the Turks in 1621 and Polish Prince Władysław's attempt to gain the throne of Russia in 1618. The Roman Rite ( la, Ritus Romanus) is the primary liturgical rite of the Latin Church, the largest of the '' sui iuris'' particular churches that comprise the Catholic Church.
