Casoli
Casoli ( Abruzzese: ') a ''comune'' and town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is situated on a foothill of the Majella mountain, at the base of which runs the Aventino River, tributary of the Sangro. Castello Masciantonio
Castello Masciantonio (Italian for ''Masciantonio Castle'') is a Renaissance castle in Casoli, Province of Chieti (Abruzzo). History The castle was built by the Normans in the eleventh century. Casoli Internment Camp
The internment camp in Casoli, in the province of Chieti, was one of several internment camps set up by the fascist government following the entry of Italy into World War II, to sit foreigners and anti-fascists. It operated from July 1940 to September 1943, with a capacity of 80-90 people. Jewish refugees from Germany and Austria were interned first, then "ex-Yugoslavs". History On April 27, 1940, the former school in the municipality of Casoli and local property from ''Att. Innocent Tilli'' were identified as possible places of internment. They were replaced a few months later by another location of the same capacity, used in the past as a movie theatre. The Ministry of the Interior decided to allocate the place to an internment camp for foreign Jews, Germans and Austrians. Caraceni (tribe)
The Caraceni or Caricini or Carricini (Greek: or ) were a tribe of the Italic Samnites. According to Salmon, their name comes from the Celtic carreg- and car- .E.T.Salmon, ''Il Sannio ed i Sanniti'', Einaudi, Torino 1995 According to Ptolemy, they inhabited the most northern part of Samnium, bordering on the Peligni and the Frentani; but more especially the upper valley of the Sagrus (modern Sangro). The only city that he assigns to them is Aufidena. Zonaras describes them as possessing a town or stronghold, which was taken by the Roman consuls Q. Gallus and C. Fabius with difficulty. Majella
The Maiella (or Majella) is a massif in the Central Apennines, in Abruzzo, central Italy. Geography The mountain is located at the boundary between the provinces of Chieti, Pescara and L'Aquila. The highest peak is Monte Amaro at 2,793 m, the second-highest of the entire Apennine range. The massif is at the centre of the Maiella National Park.
