Casey Samuels
Casey Samuels (born 2 August 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Bendigo Spirit of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She is also contracted with the Bendigo Braves of the NBL1 South. Early life Samuels was born in Westmead, New South Wales. Basketball career WNBL Samuels debuted in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) for the Australian Institute of Sport in 2010. She played two seasons for the AIS. In a 14 December 2011 game against the Canberra Capitals, she was the team's leading scorer with 19 points. In a January 2012 game against the Dandenong Rangers, she scored five points in game her team lost. She was the team's second leading scorer in the game. In an 8 February 2012 game against the Capitals, she scored 10 points in the second half. She finished the game as the team's third leading scorer with eleven points. The University of Canberra Capitals are an Australian professional women's basketball team competing in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). The team is based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. In 2014 the University of Canberra Union took control of the Capitals from Basketball ACT. NBL1 Central, formerly the Premier League, is a semi-professional basketball league in South Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball South Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to South Australia. NBL1 replaced the former Premier League to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in South Australia. 2023–24 WNBL Season
The 2023–24 WNBL season is the 44th season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Townsville Fire were the defending champions, but were defeated in the Semi-Finals by Perth. The Southside Flyers won their fifth championship title after defeating Perth, 2–1 in the Grand Final series. Cygnett remains as the WNBL's naming rights partner for this season, after signing a three-year deal in September 2022. Spalding again provided equipment including the official game ball, alongside iAthletic supplying team apparel for the seventh consecutive season. In July 2023, the season structure was confirmed to feature an 84-game regular season and best-of-three Semi-Final & Grand Final series' to follow. 2012–13 WNBL Season
The 2012–13 WNBL season was the 33rd season of competition since the Women's National Basketball League's establishment in 1981. A total of nine teams contested the league. The regular season was played between 5 October 2012 and 16 February 2013, followed by a post-season involving the top five on 23 February 2013 until 10 March 2013. Broadcast rights were held by free-to-air network ABC. ABC broadcast one game a week, at 3 pm at every standard time in Australia.
