NBL1 North
NBL1 North, formerly the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Queensland partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Queensland. NBL1 replaced the former QBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Queensland. As a result, the QBL became the north conference of NBL1. In 2022, the league expanded into the Northern Territory with the addition of a club from Darwin. History The league was formed in 1986 as the Queensland State Basketball League. 2022 NBL1 Season
The 2022 NBL1 season was the third season of the NBL1. With the West Conference introduced in 2021 alongside the South, North and Central conferences, the NBL1 expanded further in 2022 with the inclusion of an East Conference. The 2022 season was the NBL1's first full season to be completed since 2019 and the first to feature the NBL1 National Finals. The inaugural NBL1 National champions were both from the West Conference, with the Warwick Senators women and the Rockingham Flames men coming out victorious at the National Finals in Melbourne. Carrara Indoor Stadium
Carrara Indoor Stadium is a multi-purpose arena located at Carrara on Queensland's Gold Coast and can accommodate 1,600 fans, with additional seating provided if required, which can push the total capacity for events such as basketball up to 2,962. The stadium stands adjacent to the 25,000-seat Metricon Stadium and forms part of the Carrara Sports Complex. The stadium has the nickname The Greenhouse, as even during winter it would get "hot and steamy as Hades at times", although that changed with $800,000 worth of improvements in 1996, including new air conditioning. The champion teams of the NBL1 National Finals are determined by grand final championship games at the conclusion of the finals weekend. The men's and women's champion from each NBL1 conference competes at the NBL1 National Finals each year. The conferences include: South, North, Central, West and East. After the inaugural NBL1 season in 2019 consisted of only the South Conference, the 2020 NBL1 season was set to be first season with more than one conference and therefore National participation.
