Carwyn Williams
Carwyn Williams (born 25 July 1965) is an ex-professional surfer from Mumbles, Wales, who "rose to global prominence" in the 1980s. Williams grew up in the Langland Bay area, near Mumbles. He had a strong Welsh rivalry during the 1980s with Simon Tucker. Tucker won the Junior British Championship in 1981 with Williams in second place. While Tucker was described as 'Mr Steady', Williams was "flamboyant" and a "likeable rogue" and achieved the higher profile. In 1985 and 1986 Williams won European Professional Surfing Association (ESPA) tour. Mumbles
Mumbles ( cy, Mwmbwls) is a headland sited on the western edge of Swansea Bay on the southern coast of Wales. Toponym Mumbles has been noted for its unusual place name. The headland is thought by some to have been named by French sailors, after the shape of the two anthropomorphic islands which the headland comprises: the word "Mumbles" may be a corruption of the French ''les mamelles,'' meaning "the breasts". Another possible source of the name is the word Mamucium, which is generally thought to represent a Latinisation of an original Brythonic name, either from mamm- ("breast", in reference to a "breast-like hill") or from mamma ("mother", in reference to a local river goddess). Mumbles Lighthouse was built during the 1790s, and was converted to solar powered operation in 1995. Damien Hardman
Damien Hardman (born 23 January 1966), known as The Iceman, is a former Australian surfer from Sydney. He won the Rip Curl Pro twice in 1988 and 1993, and was runner-up three times in 1989, 1991 and 1997, and in 1987/88 and 1991 he won the ASP World Tour. In 1999, he was inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame in 1999. Life and career Hardman was born in Warriewood, New South Wales on 23 January 1966. The son of financier Brian Hardman, who was later the ASP World Tour's media director, he was raised in the beachfront Sydney suburb of Narrabeen, home of well-respected and high performing surfers such as Simon Anderson and Col Smith. The Rip Curl Pro, formerly the Bells Beach Surf Classic, is a WSL (formerly ASP) World Tour surfing competition held in and around Torquay, Victoria and sponsored by surf company Rip Curl. The event is based at Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia. The event winner is awarded the prestigious 'Bell' trophy. The song "Hells Bells" by AC/DC is played every morning before the first competition. History The competition has been held annually at Easter time at Bells Beach, Victoria continuously since 1962, becoming a professional competition and sponsored by Rip Curl in 1973. Soorts-Hossegor (; oc, Sòrts e Òssagòr) is a commune in the Landes department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France, 20 km (12 miles) north of Biarritz. It is a well known seaside resort that is renowned for its surfing. The city's economy is centered around surfing. Its inhabitants are called Hossegoriens. Name In 1913, the town associated the toponym of Hossegor, from the name of its marine lake, with its original name of Soorts. The root of Soorts is probably close to that of ''Sorde'', the verb or , , meaning "where there are sources".
