The Carrum Carrum Swamp was drained in 1879 when the Patterson Cut (formed in 1876), and other drainage measures were undertaken to prevent flooding of the Eumemmering Creek, which overflowed into the Carrum Carrum Swamp. The swamp opening was mostly only open during the Winter months, so heavy Spring and Summer rains often caused flooding to properties on the edge of the swamp area. It also often caused flood damage as far north as Edithvale. The only remnants of the Carrum Carrum Swamp now form the Ramsar-listed Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands. Patterson River
The Patterson River is a partly man-made, tidal river urban river of the Port Phillip catchment in the Australian east coast state of Victoria, located in the outer southeastern suburbs of the Greater Melbourne region. Under the name "Patterson", it is the shortest river in Victoria at only in length, although its main stem tributary and ''de facto'' upper section, the Dandenong Creek, is over long. The river has only two bridge crossings along its entire course, being traversed by the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at its middle section at Patterson Lakes, and by the combined bridges of the Nepean Highway and the Frankston railway line at the junction of Bonbeach and Carrum less than above its mouth. Eumemmerring Creek is an urban stream, urban creek of the Port Phillip catchment, located in the southeastern Greater Melbourne regions of Victoria, region of the Australian eastern states of Australia, east coast state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. It confluence, joins the Dandenong Creek (of which it can be considered a tributary) to form the partly man-made Patterson River, which in turn drains into Beaumaris Bay. Course The creek's headwaters originate in the Dandenong Ranges as various small streams and spring (hydrology), springs from the hills between Mt. Life Saving Victoria
Life Saving Victoria is an Australian life saving organisation formed in 2002 from a merger of the Victorian Branch of the Royal Life Saving Society Australia and Surf Life Saving Victoria. Life Saving Victoria works to prevent drownings and other water related deaths and injuries in Victoria. Life Saving Victoria teaches local communities in Victoria about water safety, swimming and resuscitation. It also provides surf life saving services and patrols for beaches across the state. The Carrum-Patterson Lakes Football Club is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, that was founded in 1909 and currently plays in Division 3 of the Southern Football League. History Football has been reported to be played in Carrum since as early as 1902.
