Federal Football League
The Federal Football League (FFL), also known simply as the Federal League, was an Australian rules football competition in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. The competition was in existence from 1909 to 1981 and was regarded as one of the strongest metropolitan leagues in Melbourne. It is said that, in the mid-1960s, Seven Network, Channel 7 was seeking to telecast FFL games on a Sunday. The ''Brighton Southern Cross'' was an English language newspaper published in Brighton, Victoria, Australia. History John Stott and G.H. Orford, were successively editors from 1871-1890. John Stott published the first issue on Saturday 27 February 1871 on a single sheet of paper folded into four and priced at one penny. Turnor and Wislon took over from Orford in 1890 and increased the size and scope of the paper. From 1900 C.T. The Oakleigh District Football Netball Club is a semi-professional Australian rules football club in the southern suburbs of Melbourne. The club currently participates in Division 3 of the Eastern Football Netball League. History Late in 1949 a meeting was held in Oakleigh Mechanics Institute Hall in Drummond Street Oakleigh to solve the problem of having no open age side to for all mature players to continue on their careers. The only open age side in Oakleigh area besides the Oakleigh (VFA) club was Oakleigh United but they had just disbanded. The club had left 50 pounds to any club starting up an open age side. The Noble Park Football Club is an Australian rules football club that fields teams in both the seniors and juniors of the Eastern Football League (EFL) in Melbourne. The club is considered one of Victoria's most successful breeding grounds for VFL/AFL players. The Moorabbin Football Club, nicknamed the Kangas, was an Australian rules football club best known for its time in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1983 to 1987. The club existed for only eight years and did not achieve any success. History The Moorabbin Football Club was formed in 1979 via a merger of the neighbouring McKinnon Football Club and Bentleigh Football Club, each of whom played in the Federal Football League (FFL). The new amalgamated club was based at McKinnon but known as Moorabbin, taking the same colours and nickname as the former Moorabbin Football Club, which disbanded in 1965.
