Carrick Pursuivant Of Arms
Carrick Pursuivant of Arms is a Scotland, Scottish Officer of Arms, pursuivant of arms of the Court of the Lord Lyon. The title is derived from the Earl of Carrick, Earldom of Carrick, one of the titles borne by Robert the Bruce before his succession to the crown. The arms of the Earldom are ''Argent, a chevron Gules'', hence the chevron in the pursuivant's heraldic badge, badge. The earliest known reference to the office is from 1364. The badge is blazoned: ''A chevron Gules enfiled of a coronet of four fleurs-de-lys (two visible) and four crosses pattee (one and two halves visible) Or.'' The current Carrick Pursuivant is Professor Gillian Black. Sir Duncan Campbell, 3rd Baronet
Sir Duncan Alexander Dundas Campbell, 3rd Baronet (4 December 1856 – 27 May 1926) was a Scottish British Army officer, historian and officer of arms. Campbell was the son of Sir Alexander Campbell, 2nd Baronet and Harriette Augusta Royer Collier, and he succeeded to his father's title on 11 December 1880. He served as an officer in the Black Watch. Between 1884 and 1895 he was Gentleman Usher of the Green Rod. Campbell retired from the army in 1893, with the rank of Honorary Major, late of the 3rd and 4th Battalion Highland Light Infantry. From 1907 until his death in 1926, he was Carrick Pursuivant of the Court of the Lord Lyon and was a member of the Royal Company of Archers. John Spens
John Alexander Spens (7 June 1933 – 14 January 2021) was a Scottish lawyer and officer of arms. Spens was the son of Thomas Patrick Spens and Nancy Farie Anderson. He was educated at Rugby School, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and the University of Glasgow. He was a partner of the legal firm Maclay, Murray and Spens, and a director of Scottish Amicable Life Assurance Society and Standard Property Investment Ltd. He was a commissioned officer in the Royal Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander and being awarded the Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Reserve in 1970. In 1965 he was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers. From 1977 he was a member of the Society of Writers to Her Majesty's Signet. David John Wilson Reid of Robertland, Baron of Robertland (1929 – 20 December 1973) was a Scottish barrister, officer of arms and archivist. Reid studied law at Trinity College, Cambridge and The Hague Academy of International Law. Sir Malcolm Rognvald Innes of Edingight (25 May 1938 – 20 September 2020) was Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland from 1981 until 2001. Sir James Monteith Grant Royal Heraldry Society of Canada, FRHSC (Hon) (19 October 1903 – 1 December 1981) was Lord Lyon King of Arms, Lord Lyon King of Arms of Scotland from 1969 to 1981. Alexander James Stevenson
Alexander James Stevenson (15 July 1901 – 2 September 1970) was a Scottish first-class cricketer and sheriff-substitute. Stevenson was born in the Edinburgh suburb of Blackhall in July 1901. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy, before matriculating to King's College, Cambridge and later the University of Edinburgh. During his time at university, Stevenson served as a second lieutenant in the Territorial Army with the Royal Scots, having been appointed in July 1921. A club cricketer for Grange, Stevenson made four appearances in first-class cricket for Scotland, making his debut against Ireland at Dublin in 1925. His three first-class matches which followed were all against Ireland, the last of which was played at Edinburgh in 1928. In his four matches, he scored 190 runs at an average of 27.14, with a highest score of 54. Outside of cricket, Stevenson was an advocate. Seton Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for persons with the surname Seton, all in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia. As of 2008 one creation is extant, one dormant and two extinct. The Seton Baronetcy, of Abercorn in the County of Linlithgow, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 3 June 1663 for Walter Seton, with remainder to heirs male whatsoever. The present Baronet is the male representative of Sir Alexander Seton, wife of Elizabeth, sister and heiress of John Gordon of Gordon. In 1408 they obtained a charter of the lands of Gordon and Sir Alexander is held to have been created a Lord of Parliament as Lord Gordon sometime before 1429. Their son Alexander assumed the surname of Gordon and was created Earl of Huntly in 1445. By his first marriage to Egidia Hay he is the ancestor of the Seton Baronets of Abercorn.
