Carolina Vipers
The Carolina Vipers were an indoor soccer team based in Charlotte, North Carolina that played in the Continental Indoor Soccer League. They played only one season in 1994. Their home arena was Independence Arena. The Vipers were owned by Felix Sabates and Carl Scheer, who also owned the Charlotte Checkers ECHL minor league hockey team during this era. After one season with lower-than-expected attendance, Scheer and Sabates sold the team back to the CISL. Independence Arena
Bojangles Coliseum, originally Charlotte Coliseum and formerly Independence Arena and Cricket Arena, is a 10,829-seat multi-purpose arena located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is operated by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, which also oversees nearby Ovens Auditorium and the uptown Charlotte Convention Center. The Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL) was a professional indoor soccer league that played from 1993 to 1997. Felix Sabates
Feliciano Sergio "Félix" Sabates Jr. (born September 9, 1945) is a Cuban-born former entrepreneur, and philanthropist living in the United States of America. He is a partner in Chip Ganassi Racing teams, which formerly fielded teams in the NASCAR Cup Series (as Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates), as well as fielding the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, World Endurance Championship and IndyCar Series teams. Carl Scheer
Carl Scheer (December 14, 1936 – December 13, 2019) was an American basketball executive. Over his career, he served as the general manager of the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Hornets. He was also the commissioner of the Continental Basketball Association. He was the first GM in Hornets history and is credited as the inventor of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The Charlotte Checkers were an American ice hockey team in Charlotte, North Carolina, and played in the ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League). Franchise history Following a 17-year break from ice hockey, the Checkers returned in 1993 and made the playoffs ten times, including winning the ECHL Championship in 1996. John Garvey (born March 26, 1969, in Guilford, Connecticut) is a retired American soccer player. Career College Garvey played college soccer at the University of Maryland from 1987 to 1990. Professional In 1991, following his graduation from Maryland, Garvey had a trial with Coventry City but was not offered a contract. He returned to the United States and signed with the Miami Freedom of the American Professional Soccer League.
