Carolina Railhawks
North Carolina FC is an American professional soccer team in Cary, North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 2006, the team previously was named the Carolina Railhawks. On December 6, 2016, the RailHawks announced a name change to North Carolina Football Club in pursuit of becoming a Major League Soccer franchise. The club's home attendance record had been broken earlier that year when 10,125 attended a match against West Ham United of the English Premier League. The team has played its home games at the 10,000-seat WakeMed Soccer Park since 2007. The team's colors are Atlantic blue, cardinal red, and Southern gold. WakeMed Soccer Park
WakeMed Soccer Park is a Association football, soccer complex in Cary, North Carolina, United States. It consists of a purpose-built, Soccer-specific stadium, soccer-specific main stadium named "First Horizon Stadium", two lighted practice football pitches, and four additional fields. The main stadium and the two lighted fields (2 & 3) are all FIFA international regulation size (). The stadium seats 10,000, while Field 2 also has 1,000 permanent bleacher seats. The complex also sports a full-length Cross country running, cross-country course and houses the offices of North Carolina FC, Triangle Professional Soccer. Southern Derby
The Southern Derby is a fan-based U.S. professional soccer cup competition between USL Championship (USLC) teams based in the South-Atlantic region of the United States (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia). It was founded in 2000. The Southern Derby trophy is currently held by the Charleston Battery. The Southern Derby was created by the fans of the teams involved to promote a friendly competition and rivalry along the clubs involved and encourage fans to travel to away matches. The Southern Derby is perhaps the first cup competition of its kind in American professional soccer. It is common in nature with other fan cup competitions which originated in the United Soccer Leagues such as the Cascadia Cup, the James River Cup, and the Voyageurs Cup. Charleston Battery
The Charleston Battery are an American professional association football, soccer club based in Charleston, South Carolina, and member of the USL Championship. Founded in 1993, the Battery are the oldest continuously operating professional soccer club in the United States. Charleston are one of the more successful lower-division soccer clubs in the United States, having won four league titles. The Battery won the USISL Pro League in 1996, the USL A-League in 2003, the USL Second Division in 2010 (where they also won the regular season title), and the 2012 USL Pro season, USL Championship in 2012. Chivas USA (pronounced ''CHEE-vahs'') was an American professional Association football, soccer club based in the Greater Los Angeles area. Kupono Low (born December 27, 1978) is an American former soccer player. Career College and amateur Low attended Irvington High School in Fremont, California, and played college soccer at California State University, Fresno from 1999 to 2002, where he was selected for the Pac-10 Men's Soccer All-Conference First Team in 2002. In 2000, also played with the Central Coast Roadrunners in the USL Premier Development League. Professional Low began his professional career with the California Gold in the third division USL Pro Select League in 2003. He moved to the Syracuse Salty Dogs of the USL A-League in 2004, before signing with Irish side Sligo Rovers, whom he helped win promotion to the Premier Division. Carolina RailHawks FC 2007 Season
The Carolina RailHawks launched their inaugural season on April 21, 2007, in front of a crowd of 6,327 at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina when they drew 1–1 with the Minnesota Thunder in their first official regular season match. Midfielder Kupono Low scored the first goal in franchise history when he blasted a 24-yard left-footed shot past Thunder keeper Joe Warren in the 8th minute of the inaugural match. On May 8, 2007, the RailHawks earned their first franchise victory 2–0 against Chivas USA in an exhibition match. On August 14, 2007, with a 3–0 victory over the Charleston Battery, the Carolina RailHawks secured their first piece of silverware, the 2007 Southern Derby Cup, with one match remaining in the contest. The NC State Wolfpack is the nickname of the athletic teams representing North Carolina State University. The Wolfpack competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) NCAA Division I, Division I (NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for college football) as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for all sports since the 1953–54 season. Scott Schweitzer
Scott Schweitzer (born August 12, 1971) is an American soccer coach and former player. He spent two years as the head coach of Carolina RailHawks FC. College soccer Schweitzer was born in Rahway, New Jersey. He was a four-year letter winner at N.C. State University. He was a two-time All-American (second team in 1991 and first team in 1992) and named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1992. He was a member of the Wolfpack team that made it to the 1990 NCAA Final Four. Schweitzer was also a member of the U.S. World University Games Team from 1992 to 1994.
