Carolina RailHawks FC 2007 Season
The Carolina RailHawks launched their inaugural season on April 21, 2007, in front of a crowd of 6,327 at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina when they drew 1–1 with the Minnesota Thunder in their first official regular season match. Midfielder Kupono Low scored the first goal in franchise history when he blasted 24-yard left-footed shot past Thunder keeper Joe Warren in the 8th minute of the inaugural match. On May 8, 2007, the RailHawks earned their first franchise victory 2–0 against Chivas USA in an exhibition match. On August 14, 2007, with a 3–0 victory over the Charleston Battery, the Carolina RailHawks secured their first piece of silverware, the 2007 Southern Derby Cup, with one match remaining in the contest. Carolina RailHawks
North Carolina FC is an American professional soccer team in Cary, North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh. Founded in 2006, the team plays in USL League One, the third tier of the American league system. The team has played its home games at the 10,000-seat WakeMed Soccer Park since 2007. The team's colors are Atlantic blue, cardinal red, and Southern gold. On December 6, 2016, the Carolina RailHawks announced a name change to North Carolina Football Club in pursuit of becoming a Major League Soccer franchise. Mark Jonas
Mark Jonas (born October 17, 1974 in Washington, D.C.) is an American soccer midfielder who had a twelve-year professional career in the U.S. indoor and lower division outdoor leagues. He earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1991. High school and college Jonas attended Bowie High School where he played on the boys' soccer team. His senior year, Bowie won the Maryland 4A championship and Jonas was named the All Met Player of the Year having scored 22 goals in addition to 9 assists. He then attended North Carolina State University where he played on the men's soccer team from 1992 to 1995. Stuart Brightwell (born 31 January 1979) is a former English football midfielder who spent one season in the USL First Division in the USA. He last played for Horden Colliery Welfare A.F.C. in the Northern League. Currently, he works as a coach at the i2i International Soccer Academy. . Brightwell came up through the Manchester United youth system, before transferring to Hartlepool United in 1998. Brightwell played in 20 games for the Monkey Hangers. Francisco Sanfilippo (born September 8, 1981) is an American former soccer player who is currently an assistant coach for the University of San Diego. Career College Sanfilippo was born in San Diego, California. After graduating from University High School in 1999, he attended San José State University where he was a member of the men's soccer team from 1999 to 2003. In February 2003, the San Jose Earthquakes selected Sanfilippo in the 6th round (56th overall) of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. Matthew Maher (born April 13, 1984) is an American retired soccer defender (football), defender, who was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for first degree aggravated manslaughter and drunken driving.
