Carlos João Pereira
Carlos João Pereira (born 30 August 1969) is a Portuguese politician and economist. He is currently a member of the Portuguese Parliament and vice-president of the Socialist Party's parliamentary group. He was also a member of parliament and parliamentary leader of the PS in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira. Biography He has a degree in economics from the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (ISEG). He has two postgraduate degrees, one in Rural Sociology (Instituto Superior de Agronomia) and the other in Tourism Management (Universidade da Madeira). Madeira (Assembly Of The Republic Constituency)
Madeira is one of the 22 multi-member constituencies of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. The constituency was established as Funchal in 1976 when the Assembly of the Republic was established by the constitution following the restoration of democracy. It was renamed Madeira in 1979 after Portugal's Atlantic islands were granted autonomy. It is conterminous with the autonomous region of Madeira. The constituency currently elects six of the 230 members of the Assembly of the Republic using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. 2015 Madeiran Regional Election
A regional election was held in Madeira on 29 March 2015, to determine the composition of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The election was the first in which the former President of the Region, Alberto João Jardim, was not on the ballot as he earlier stated that he would step down as President and leader of the PSD-Madeira in January 2015. On 29 December 2014, the PSD-Madeira elected Miguel Albuquerque as the new president of the party's regional section. After winning the presidency, Albuquerque stated that he would not assume the Presidency of the Government without an election, so Alberto João Jardim asked President Aníbal Cavaco Silva to dissolve the Parliament and call an election, which was scheduled for 29 March. The Social Democratic Party ( , PSD) is a liberal-conservative political party in Portugal that is currently the country's ruling party. Commonly known by its colloquial initials PSD, on ballot papers its initials appear as its official form PPD/PSD, with the first three letters coming from the party's original name, the Democratic People's Party (, PPD). A party of the centre-right, the PSD is one of the three major parties in Portuguese politics, its rivals being the Socialist Party (PS) on the centre-left and the far-right Chega (CH) party. Miguel Filipe Machado de Albuquerque (born 4 May 1961) is a Portugal, Portuguese Monarchism, monarchist politician of the Social Democratic Party (Portugal), Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the current Presidents of the Regional Government of Madeira, President of the Regional Government of Madeira. 2005 Portuguese Local Elections
Local elections were held in Portugal on 9 October 2005. The election consisted of three separate elections in the 308 Portuguese municipalities, the election for the Municipal Chambers, whose winner is automatically elected mayor, similar to first-past-the-post (FPTP), another election for the Municipal Assembly and a last one for the lower-level Parish Assembly, whose winner is elected parish president. Alberto João Cardoso Gonçalves Jardim, Order of Christ (Portugal), GCC, Order of Infante D. Henrique, GCIH (, born 4 February 1943) is a Portuguese politician who was the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Portugal, from 1978 to 2015. Early years Jardim was born on Madeira Island in 1943, son of Alberto Gonçalves Jardim (d. 1954) and wife Marceliana do Patrocínio de Jesus Cardoso (Funchal, São Pedro, baptized 2 September 1909 – 29 July 2006).
