Carlos Diegues
Carlos Diegues (also known as Cacá Diegues; 19 May 1940 – 14 February 2025) was a Brazilian film director, best known as a member of the Cinema Novo movement. He was popularly known for his unconventional, yet intriguing film techniques among other film producers of the Cinema Novo movement. Diegues was also widely known for his dynamic use of visuals, ideas, plots, themes, and other cinematic techniques. He incorporated many musical acts in his film as he favored musical pieces to be complementary to his ideas. Diegues remained very popular and is regarded as having been one of the great cinematic producers of his generation. Diegues would go on to produce films, plays, musicals, and other forms of entertainment in Brazil. Diegues' contributions to Brazilian cinema developed the film industry. ''Quilombo'' is a 1984 Brazilian drama film directed by Carlos Diegues. It was entered into the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. The film is based on the history of the Quilombo dos Palmares, a community of escaped slaves that numbered in the thousands during the 17th century in north-eastern Brazil. ''The Great Mystical Circus'' () is a 2018 Brazilian romantic drama film directed and written by Cacá Diegues, his first film in 12 years. ''God Is Brazilian'' () is a 2003 Brazilian fantasy comedy-drama film co-written and directed by Carlos Diegues, based on the short story ''O Santo que Não Acreditava em Deus'' by João Ubaldo Ribeiro. Vinicius De Moraes
Marcus Vinícius da Cruz e Mello Moraes (19 October 1913 – 9 July 1980), better known as Vinícius de Moraes () and nicknamed "O Poetinha" ("The Little Poet"), was a Brazilian poet, diplomat, lyricist, essayist, musician, singer, and playwright. With his frequent and diverse musical partners, including Antônio Carlos Jobim, his lyrics and compositions were instrumental in the birth and introduction to the world of bossa nova music. ' (Orpheus of the Conception) is a stage play with music in three acts by Vinicius de Moraes and music by Antônio Carlos Jobim that premiered in 1956 in Rio de Janeiro. The play became the basis for the films ''Orfeu Negro'' ('' Black Orpheus'', 1959) and '' Orfeu'' (1999), and for the musicals ''Orfeu'' (Brazil, 2010) and ''Black Orpheus'' (Broadway, 2014). Jorge Amado ( 10 August 1912 – 6 August 2001) was a Brazilian writer of the modernist school. He remains the best-known of modern Brazilian writers, with his work having been translated into some 49 languages and popularized in film, including ''Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands (novel), Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands'' in 1976, and having been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature 7 times. His work reflects the image of a Mestiço Brazil and is marked by religious syncretism. Engenheiros Do Hawaii
Engenheiros do Hawaii ("Engineers from Hawaii" in English) was a Brazilian rock band formed in Porto Alegre in 1983 that achieved great popularity with their ironic, critically charged songs with heavily semantic lyrics often relying on wordplays. The vocalist and bassist Humberto Gessinger was the only member present since the original lineup.
