Carlo Tonon
Carlo Tonon (25 March 1955, in San Vendemiano – 17 June 1996, in Stabiuzzo) was an Italian professional road bicycle racer. He was a professional rider from 1982 through 1984 and twice started the Tour de France. 1984 Tour de France Tonon finished his first Tour de France for Carrera, where he rode alongside Guido Bontempi, in 1982 as 116th. He was again selected for the 1984 Tour de France where in the 19th stage he collided with a tourist while descending the Col de Joux-Plane. He was transferred to Annecy hospital with a fractured skull. He remained in a coma for two months and was left with a permanent disability which contributed to him taking his own life in 1996, aged 41. Tour De France
The Tour de France () is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Guido Bontempi
Guido Bontempi (born 12 January 1960 in Gussago) is an Italian former road bicycle racer. Bontempi's career highlights include winning the spring's classic Gent–Wevelgem two times (1984 and 1986) and a total of 16 stages in the Giro d'Italia throughout his career. He also won six stages in the Tour de France and four stages in the Vuelta a España. In the 1988 Tour de France he won the prologue, allowing him to wear the yellow jersey in the first stage. He also won the points classification in the 1986 Giro d'Italia and wore the pink jersey as leader of the general classification for one stage in the 1981 Giro d'Italia. He also competed in the 1000m time trial and team pursuit events at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Denis Zanette (23 March 1970 – 10 January 2003) was an Italian professional racing cyclist. He rode in eight editions of the Giro d'Italia and made one start in the Tour de France, in 1995. He won a stage in both the 1995 and 2001 Giro d'Italia. He came third in the 2001 Tour of Flanders. The 1982 Tour de France was the 69th edition of the Tour de France, taking place from 2 to 25 July. The total race distance was 22 stages over . It was won by Bernard Hinault, his fourth victory so far. Teams In response to the finish of the 1981 Tour de France, French minister of sports Edwige Avice objected to the amount of advertising in the race, and suggested the Tour to return to the national team format. The Tour organisation needed the money brought in by the sponsors, and no changes were made to the team structure. The Tour organisation decided to start with 17 teams, each with 10 cyclists, for a total of 170, a new record. Tour director Félix Lévitan suggested to reduce the number of cyclists by starting with teams of 9 cyclists, but this was rejected. Teams could submit a request to join until 15 May 1982. 1983 Giro D'Italia
The 1983 Giro d'Italia was the 66th running of the Giro. It started in Brescia, on 12 May, with an prologue and concluded in Udine, on 5 June, with a individual time trial. A total of 162 riders from eighteen teams entered the 22-stage race, that was won by Italian Giuseppe Saronni of the Del Tongo-Colnago team. The second and third places were taken by Italian Roberto Visentini and Spaniard Alberto Fernández, respectively. Amongst the other classifications that the race awarded, Saronni won the points classification, Lucien Van Impe of Metauro Mobili won the mountains classification, and Vivi-Benotto's Franco Chioccioli completed the Giro as the best neo-professional in the general classification, finishing sixteenth overall.
