''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' is a 1927 American synchronized sound drama film directed by Harry A. Pollard and released by Universal Pictures. While the film has no audible dialog, it was released with a synchronized musical score with sound effects using the Western Electric sound-on-film process. The film is based on the 1852 novel ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'' by Harriet Beecher Stowe and was the last version filmed without audible dialogue. This film is important historically as being Universal's first sound feature. In this version of the film, all of the major slave roles, with the exception of Uncle Tom himself, were portrayed by white actors. Actress Mona Ray played the slave Topsy in blackface while the slaves Eliza, George, Cassie, and Harry were all presented as having very light skin coloring because of mixed-race heritage. The Home of Peace Memorial Park and Mortuary ( ''Beit Kvarot Beit Shalom''), also called the Home of Peace Cemetery, is a Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles, California. It is located at 4334 Whittier Boulevard west of Interstate 710 in East Los Angeles. History In 1853, the first and oldest Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles was established in Chavez Ravine, near the present-day Dodger Stadium. In 1901, Kaspare Cohn donated 30 acres (12.1 ha) of land for the establishment of this cemetery. The bodies interred at Chavez Ravine were moved to East Los Angeles's Home of Peace Memorial Park between 1902 and 1910. There are a number of famous rabbis buried here, and amongst others a few celebrities from the entertainment industry as well. Raymond Cannon (born Ulises Tildmann Cannon; September 1, 1892 – June 7, 1977) was an American film actor, actor, film director, screenwriter, journalist, and author known for his work with D. W.
