Cardiff Central () is a United Kingdom constituencies, constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of eight constituencies in the South Wales Central (Senedd electoral region), South Wales Central Senedd constituencies and electoral regions, electoral region, which elects four additional member system, additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The Senedd ( ; ), officially known as the Welsh Parliament in English and () in Welsh, is the devolved, unicameral legislature of Wales. Safe Seat
A safe seat is an electoral district which is regarded as fully secure, for either a certain political party, or the incumbent representative personally or a combination of both. With such seats, there is very little chance of a seat changing hands because of the political leanings of the electorate in the constituency concerned or the popularity of the incumbent member. This contrasts with a marginal seat in which a defeat for the seat holder is considered possible. Constituency profile and voting The constituency was created for the first election to the Assembly, in 1999, with the name and boundaries of the Cardiff South and Penarth Westminster constituency. It is entirely within the preserved county of South Glamorgan. Cardiff Central () was a borough constituency in the city of Cardiff. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the British House of Commons, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post system. The seat was last held by Jo Stevens of the Labour Party (UK), Labour Party. She was appointed as Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on 6 April 2020. The 2021 Senedd election took place on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect 60 members to the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; ). It was the sixth Devolution in the United Kingdom, devolved general election since the Senedd (formerly the National Assembly for Wales) was established in 1999. South Wales Central
South Wales Central () is an electoral region of the Senedd, consisting of eight constituencies. The region elects 12 members, eight directly elected constituency members and four additional members. The electoral region was first used in 1999, when the National Assembly for Wales was created. Each constituency elects one Member of the Senedd (MSs) by the first past the post electoral system, and the region as a whole elects four additional or top-up MSs, to create a degree of proportional representation. Eluned Parrott
Eluned Parrott is a Welsh Liberal Democrat politician. She was an Assembly Member (AM) of the National Assembly for Wales between 2011 and 2016. She is a Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales. Background Eluned was born in Abergavenny. She studied at St Peter's Collegiate School, in Wolverhampton. Parrott gained a degree in music from Cardiff University, and has a postgraduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Before becoming an A.M., she worked as a community engagement manager for Cardiff University, leading a team that organises educational outreach and community events for the public.
