Turcica
''Turcica'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Eucyclidae. Kano et al. (2009) have argued that ''Turcica'' belongs in the family Calliotropidae. Description The thin, subdiaphanous, imperforate shell has a conoidal shape. The whorls display transverse series of granules, the last rounded on the periphery. The thick columella is spirally twisted posteriorly, ending anteriorly in an obtuse, prominent point. The thin outer lip is simple and acute. Distribution The genus ranges on both shores of the Pacific, from California and Australia northward. Tom Iredale
Tom Iredale (24 March 1880 – 12 April 1972) was an English-born ornithologist and malacologist who had a long association with Australia, where he lived for most of his life. He was an autodidact who never went to university and lacked formal training. This was reflected in his later work; he never revised his manuscripts and never used a typewriter. Early life Iredale was born at Stainburn, Workington in Cumberland, England. He was apprenticed to a pharmacist from 1899 to 1901, and used to go bird watching and egg collecting in the Lake District with fellow chemist William Carruthers Lawrie. New Zealand Iredale emigrated to New Zealand following medical advice, as he had health issues. He may possibly have had tuberculosis. According to a letter to Will Lawrie dated 25 January 1902, he arrived in Wellington, New Zealand in December 1901, and travelled at once on to Lyttelton and Christchurch. Arthur Adams (zoologist)
Arthur Adams (1820 in Gosport, Hampshire – 1878) was an English physician and naturalist. Adams was assistant surgeon Royal Navy on board HMS ''Samarang'' during the survey of the islands of the Eastern Archipelago, from 1843 to 1846. He edited the ''Zoology of the voyage of H.M.S. Samarang'' (1850). Adam White collaborated with him in the descriptions of the Crustacea from the voyage. In 1857, during the Second China War whilst serving as Surgeon on HMS ''Actaeon'', he was present at the storming of Canton and awarded the China War Medal. He retired as Staff Surgeon aboard flagship HMS ''Royal Adelaide'' at Plymouth in 1870. He was a prolific malacologist who described "hundreds of new species, most of them unillustrated and insufficiently diagnosed".
