Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer team based in Calgary, Alberta that plays in the men's and women's divisions of League1 Alberta. History The club was founded in 1967 with a team of 11 and 12-year-old boys, who represented the province of Alberta at an Expo 67 soccer competition in Montreal, and upon their return, they adopted the name of a defunct Canadian Junior Football team (North Hill Blizzards) and became an official club. In March 1977, the club was registered as a Society in the Province of Alberta. In August 2019, they received the National Youth Club Licence from the Canadian Soccer Association, which recognizes the highest achieving organizations from across Canada and must adhere to a set of standards for club and player development. However, in January 2022, their national youth license was revoked due to player recruitment infractions. In June 2023, they re-obtained a National youth license. League1 Alberta (L1AB) is a semi-professional men's and women's soccer league in Alberta, Canada. The league is sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association and the Alberta Soccer Association as a third division pro–am league in the Canadian soccer league system. 2024 League1 Alberta Season
The 2024 League1 Alberta season is the first official season of League1 Alberta, a Division 3 men's and women's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid and the highest level of soccer based in the Canadian province of Alberta. Format In 2024, the league operated as an official League1 Canada division, after running an exhibition series in 2023. Seven clubs participated in each of the men's and women's divisions. In the men's divisions, two new clubs joined who did not participate in the 2023 Exhibition Series: Callies United and Calgary Blizzard SC (the Blizzard operated a women's team in 2023). The 1967 International and Universal Exposition, commonly known as Expo 67, was a general exhibition from April 28 to October 29, 1967. 2023 League1 Alberta Exhibition Series
The 2023 League1 Alberta Exhibition Series was an exhibition showcase season by the recently founded League1 Alberta soccer league, which is scheduled to organize its first official season in 2024. Format League1 Alberta was launched in 2023 with an anticipated debut season in 2024. For 2023, interested clubs participated in an exhibition series as a trial run to test the feasibility of the league. Five clubs participated in each of the male and female divisions (four clubs will enter clubs in both, while two other clubs will enter a single team in one of the divisions). Each participating team played eight matches (four home and four away), facing every opponent twice between May 12 and July 24. A final was played on July 28. The Canadian Premier League (CPL or CanPL; ) is a professional Association football, soccer league in Canada and the highest level of the Canadian soccer league system.
