League1 Canada
League1 Canada (L1C; ) is a national pro–am Association football, soccer organization in Canada. It consists of four regional leagues; League1 Alberta, League1 British Columbia, League1 Ontario, and Ligue1 Québec with each league operating men's and women's divisions. L1C is overseen by Canada Soccer Business, in partnership with participating provincial member federations. League1 Canada is the third tier of the Canadian soccer league system which is the highest level of pro–am soccer in the country. It is below the Canadian Premier League which is the nation's top-tier professional league. Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer team based in Calgary, Alberta that plays in the men's and women's divisions of League1 Alberta. History The club was founded in 1967 with a team of 11 and 12-year-old boys, who represented the province of Alberta at an Expo 67 soccer competition in Montreal, and upon their return, they adopted the name of a defunct Canadian Junior Football team (North Hill Blizzards) and became an official club. In March 1977, the club was registered as a Society in the Province of Alberta. In August 2019, they received the National Youth Club Licence from the Canadian Soccer Association, which recognizes the highest achieving organizations from across Canada and must adhere to a set of standards for club and player development. The Maritime Super Series is an annual soccer exhibition tournament contested by three teams in the Maritimes, Canada. The competition is a showcase series for a potential semi-professional League1 Canada competition for teams in the region, to be known as "League1 Atlantic". Format and teams The series was formed in response to an interest in the formation of a potential League1 Atlantic division that would form part of League1 Canada. Three clubs, one from each Maritime province, participated in the inaugural 2023 edition of the men's and women's tournaments, which were played over three weekends and each culminated in a final.
