Caitlin Simmers
Caitlin Simmers (born October 26, 2005) is an American surfer from Oceanside, California, who has competed professionally since 2018. She qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. Career Simmers qualified for the 2022 CT by finishing fourth in the 2021 Challenger Series. Her first victory on the professional circuit was when she won the US Open of Surfing, the first event of the CS in 2021. In 2022 Simmers, who was 16-years old, decided to withdraw from the 2022 WSL Championship Tour to focus on developing her surfing and staying close to her family. She returned to compete in the 2022 Challenger Series where she once again qualified for the 2023 WSL Championship Tour. She won the first CS event in 2022, beating Molly Picklum in the grand final of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast Pro in Australia. 2023 Season In 2023, Simmers made her debut in the world surfing elite. The 2023 Rip Curl WSL Finals was the 11th and final event of the 2023 World Surf League. It was the third edition of the World Surf League Finals, and took place at Lower Trestles in California on September 9, 2023. Format The event featured the top five surfers from both the men's and women's regular season standings, and consisted of four head-to-head matches, held on a single day. In the first match, the surfers ranked fourth and fifth went head-to-head, with the winner advancing to take on the third-ranked surfer in the second match. The winner of the second match then took on the second-ranked surfer in the third match, with the winner qualifying for the title match against the top-ranked surfer in the standings. Banzai Pipeline
The Banzai Pipeline, or simply Pipeline or Pipe, is a surf reef break located in Hawaii, off Ehukai Beach Park in Pupukea on O'ahu's North Shore. A reef break is an area in the ocean where waves start to break once they reach the shallows of a reef. Pipeline is known for huge waves that break in shallow water just above a sharp and cavernous reef, forming large, hollow, thick curls of water that surfers can tube ride. There are three reefs at Pipeline in progressively deeper water farther out to sea that activate according to the increasing size of approaching ocean swells. Origin of the name The location's compound name combines the name of the surf break (Pipeline) with the name of the beach fronting it (Banzai Beach). Bells Beach
Bells Beach is a locality in Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. It is a popular surf beach, located 100 km south-west of Melbourne, on the Great Ocean Road near the towns of Torquay and Jan Juc. It is named after William Bell, a Geelong businessman and grazier, who owned much of the property there from the 1840s. Many records wrongly accredit the location's name to John Calvert Bell of the family that took up a pastoral run there much later in 1905 and built the 'Addiscot' homestead. John Calvert Bell was, before that time, a resident at Calder Park, Mount Duneed, and not related to William Bell of Bells Beach. 2025 World Surf League
The 2025 World Surf League is the 48th season of all iterations of the tour circuit for professional surfers. Billabong Pipe Masters will be the first round of the tour. For the first time, the season will end Cloudbreak, in Tavarua, Fiji, will host the WSL Finals to determine the 2025 World Champions. It is the first time the WSL Finals has moved locations since its debut in 2021. John John Florence and Caitlin Simmers are the defending champions from the 2024 season. Florence announced on 21 January 2025 his withdrawal from the 2025 season, allowing rookie Alan Cleland Jr. to take his spot on the CT. Trestles (surfing)
Trestles is a collection of surfing spots between northern San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County and southern San Clemente, California, San Clemente in Orange County, California, Orange County in California. Trestles consists of, from north to south, Upper Trestles (Uppers), Lower Trestles (Lowers), and Middle Trestles (Middles). North of Upper Trestles is the surf spot called Cottons. South of Middles is the surf spot called The Church. Middles gets its name because it was a middle area between Trestles (both Uppers and Lowers breaks) and The Church (sometimes just called "Church". It is named after Trestles Bridge, a wooden trestle bridge that surfers must walk under to reach the beach, replaced in 2012 by a concrete viaduct.
