CKOV-FM (103.9 FM, ''OV 103.9'') is a radio station in Kelowna, British Columbia. Owned by Jim Pattison Group, it broadcasts an oldies format focused primarily on music from the 1970's. History On March 14, 2008, the CRTC approved in part an application by Vista Broadcast Group for a new FM station to serve Kelowna with an adult hits format. However, the applied for frequency of 96.1 MHz, with an average effective radiated power of 19,900 watts was rejected by the commission as unacceptable, due to approval of another FM station application by Sun Country Cablevision to use 96.3 MHz. Vista subsequently re-filed its application for a new frequency and on August 7 of the same year, the Commission approved the use of 103.9 MHz with an average ERP of 5,200 watts. CKQQ-FM (103.1 Hertz, MHz) is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a classic hits format in Kelowna, Kelowna, British Columbia. The station is owned by Jim Pattison Group. History The station's origins are actually that of an amateur radio station with the call letters 10AY owned by the Kelowna Amateur Radio Club, whose founding members in 1928 were George Dunn, Bobby Johnston, Harry Blakeborough and James William Bromley Browne. The club was formed with the sole purpose of obtaining a non-commercial radio license from the federal radio and telecommunications regulator of the day. 10AY broadcast church services, theatre shows and concert performances by the Ogopogo Concert Club. Its initial operating power was 50 watts. CKMR-FM (104.5 FM, ''104.5 More Country'') is a radio station in Strathmore, Alberta. Owned by Golden West Broadcasting, it broadcasts a country format. History On December 9, 2014, Clear Sky Radio received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for a new FM radio station in Strathmore, Alberta. The new station planned to broadcast a country music format, and would operate at 104.5 MHz (channel 283B1) with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 2,800 watts (maximum ERP of 7,000 watts with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 101.5 metres). Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". Strathmore is a town located in southern Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Wheatland County. It is along the Trans-Canada Highway approximately east of Calgary. History The town began as a hamlet for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) lines that were built in the area in 1883. The CPR named the town after one of its benefactors: Claude Bowes-Lyon, the Earl of Strathmore.
