CIOR (AM)
CKOR (800 AM) is a Canadian radio station in Penticton, British Columbia. Vista Radio owns the station, which operates with 10,000 watts of transmission power in the daytime and 500 watts at night, and airs a classic hits format under the ''Summit'' brand. CKOR uses a non-directional antenna at all times. History CKOR was first signed on in 1946 by Okanagan Broadcasters Ltd., the owner of Kelowna radio station CKOV, as CKOK, a rebroadcaster of the Kelowna station, at its original frequency of 1450 AM with 250 watts of power. In 1948, CKOK moved to its current spot on the AM dial, and in September that year, became autonomous from CKOV as it began airing its own schedule. In 1950, CKOK increased its power to 1000 watts in the daytime and 500 watts at night. By 1957, CKOK Ltd. was established as the station's owner, and it was an affiliate of CBC Radio's Dominion Network. Maurice Finnerty
Maurice Patrick Finnerty (June 19, 1913 – June 11, 1977) was a radio station owner and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Similkameen in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1949 to 1952 as a Liberal. Finnerty was mayor of Penticton from 1962 to 1967. He was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, the son of Patrick J. Finnerty and Clara Collins. During World War II, Finnerty served with the Seaforth Highlanders. In 1942, he married Lesley Merle Armstrong. Finnerty owned an insurance business. He served in the provincial assembly as a member of a Liberal-Conservative coalition. Finnerty was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1952. Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". By 2020, the foundation started to wind down as its original mission was largely accomplished. EZ Rock
EZ Rock was a brand of adult contemporary radio stations heard primarily in Canada. The branding was originally created by Telemedia in the mid-1990s for its AC stations, and based on the call sign of its former Toronto flagship CJEZ-FM (now adult hits-formatted CHBM-FM). Via acquisitions, control of the "EZ Rock" brand passed from Telemedia to Astral Media and later Bell Media. By 2021, as the majority of its owned-and-operated stations had been shifted to one of Bell Media's other standardized station formats, such as Pure Country, Move Radio ( AC, which replaced Ontario's final "EZ Rock" station CHRE-FM in St. Catharines, and Kelowna's CILK-FM), or Virgin Radio ( CHR/Top 40), the only remaining "EZ Rock" stations were in British Columbia. Telemedia
Telemedia was a Canadian media company, which had holdings in radio, television and magazine publishing. The company was launched in 1968 by Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien, when he purchased CKAC in Montreal from Power Corporation of Canada. CKAC remained the company's radio flagship for its entire existence. Telemedia was held privately until it became publicly traded in the late 1980s. Telemedia's magazine assets, including ''Canadian Living'', ''Harrowsmith (magazine), Harrowsmith'', ''Homemakers (magazine), Homemakers'' and the Canadian editions of ''TV Guide (Canada), TV Guide'' and ''Elle (magazine), Elle'', were sold to Transcontinental Media in 2000.
