CHUR-FM
CHUR-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format at 100.5 FM in North Bay, Ontario. The station uses the on-air brand ''KiSS 100.5''. History The station was launched in 1984 by Gateway City Broadcasting, at 1110 AM. It was subsequently acquired in 1985 by Mid-Canada Radio, who also changed the station's frequency to 840. In 1990, the station was acquired by the Pelmorex Radio Network. Pelmorex converted the station to FM in 1994, and sold it to Telemedia in 1999. Under Telemedia's ownership, the station adopted the "EZ Rock" brand. In 2002, Telemedia was acquired by Standard Broadcasting, and CHUR was one of the stations sold by Standard to Rogers Radio. In July 2010, the station altered its musical format to present a more contemporary version of its AC Mainstream Plus blend more in line with the Hot AC version of ''American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest''. Pelmorex Radio Network
The Pelmorex Radio Network was a system of Canadian radio stations in Northern Ontario, owned and operated by Pelmorex. History In 1989, Pierre Morrissette founded his own communications company, Pelmorex Media Inc., and acquired several French and English-language radio stations that were serving various small and medium-size markets in northern Ontario. Pelmorex acquired the first stations from Mid-Canada Radio in 1990. In 1992, Pelmorex also entered into one of Canada's first local management agreements, taking over day-to-day management, but not formal ownership, of Telemedia's CHAS-FM in Sault Ste. Marie. Pelmorex became controversial as one of the first radio broadcast groups in Canada to centralize its operations as a cost-saving measure. EZ Rock
EZ Rock was a brand of adult contemporary radio stations heard primarily in Canada. The branding was originally created by Telemedia in the mid-1990s for its AC stations, and based on the call sign of its former Toronto flagship CJEZ-FM (now adult hits-formatted CHBM-FM). Via acquisitions, control of the "EZ Rock" brand passed from Telemedia to Astral Media and later Bell Media. By 2021, as the majority of its owned-and-operated stations had been shifted to one of Bell Media's other standardized station formats, such as Pure Country, Move Radio ( AC, which replaced Ontario's final "EZ Rock" station CHRE-FM in St. Catharines, and Kelowna's CILK-FM), or Virgin Radio ( CHR/Top 40), the only remaining "EZ Rock" stations were in British Columbia. Mid-Canada Communications was a Canadian media company, which operated from 1980 to 1990. The company, a division of Northern Cable, had television and radio holdings in Northeastern Ontario. MCTV Mid-Canada Television, or MCTV, was created in 1980 when Cambrian Broadcasting, which owned the CTV affiliates in Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins, merged with J. CKFX-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 101.9 FM in North Bay, Ontario. The station airs a mainstream rock format under the brand name ''101.9 Rock''. The station uses the same general format as, and shares some programming with, CJRQ-FM in Sudbury and CJQQ-FM in Timmins. History The station was originally launched in Iroquois Falls in 1922, as CFCH, a corporate communications service for lumber camps owned by Abitibi Power and Paper Company. CKAT
CKAT is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 600 AM in North Bay, Ontario. The station, owned by Rogers Media, airs a country, news and sports format. History The station originally launched in 1967 at 93.7 FM, and was acquired by Northern Broadcasting, the owners of CFCH. In 1979, CKAT adopted a country format and moved to 101.9 FM. In 1980, CKAT and CFCH were sold to Telemedia. In 1996, Telemedia swapped the stations in a move similar to its 1990 switch involving CKSO and CIGM in Sudbury. CKAT took over CFCH's AM frequency, and CFCH moved to the FM station and adopted the new callsign CKFX. In 2002, Telemedia sold the stations to Standard Broadcasting, who shortly sold them to Rogers. Telemedia
Telemedia was a Canadian media company, which had holdings in radio, television and magazine publishing. The company was launched in 1968 by Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien, when he purchased CKAC in Montreal from Power Corporation of Canada. CKAC remained the company's radio flagship for its entire existence. Telemedia was held privately until it became publicly traded in the late 1980s. Telemedia's magazine assets, including '' Canadian Living'', '' Harrowsmith'', ''Homemakers'' and the Canadian editions of ''TV Guide'' and ''Elle'', were sold to Transcontinental Media in 2000. CJMX-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts an adult contemporary format at 105.3 FM in Sudbury, Ontario. The station uses the on-air brand ''KiSS 105.3''. The station is owned by Rogers Sports & Media. History CJMX was established in 1980 by F. Baxter Ricard and Alma Ricard, the owners of Sudbury's CHNO and CFBR. CJMX's studios were located in the old King George School building at 295 Victoria Street until 1997. Its transmitter site was shared with CICI-TV and CIGM-FM near Huron Street in Sudbury. Rhythmic Contemporary
Rhythmic contemporary, also known as Rhythmic Top 40, Rhythmic CHR or rhythmic crossover, is a primarily American music-radio format that includes a mix of EDM, upbeat rhythmic pop, hip hop and upbeat R&B hits. Rhythmic contemporary never uses hard rock or country in its airplay, but it may occasionally use a reggae, Latin, reggaeton, or a urban contemporary gospel hit. Essentially, the format is a cross between mainstream radio and urban contemporary radio formats. Adult contemporary music (AC) is a form of radio-played popular music, ranging from 1960s vocal and 1970s soft rock music to predominantly ballad-heavy music of the present day, with varying degrees of easy listening, pop, soul, R&B, quiet storm and rock influence.
