Bugis MRT Station
Bugis MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the East–West (EWL) and Downtown (DTL) lines, in Bugis, Singapore. The station is located underneath the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street. Various developments surrounding the station include Bugis Junction, Raffles Hospital and the National Library. The station is also close to Kampung Glam. Initially announced as Rochore, the station was renamed Victoria and subsequently Bugis. The station was part of the early plans for the original MRT network in 1982 and opened in November 1989 as part of the MRT's eastern line extension. In 2007, it was announced that Bugis station would interchange with the planned DTL. The DTL platforms opened on 22 December 2013 as part of DTL Stage 1. Bugis EWL station is a designated Civil Defence shelter, while the DTL station is adorned with a diamond motif reflective of Bugis culture. Pressure grouting or jet grouting involves injecting a grout material into otherwise inaccessible but interconnected pore or void space of which neither the configuration or volume are known, and is often referred to simply as ''grouting''. The New 7th Storey Hotel was a demolished budget hotel once located on Rochor Road in the Downtown Core of Singapore. History The New 7th Storey Hotel was established in 1953. The founder of the hotel, Wee Thiam Siew, spotted the potential for a hotel business on its current site in the early 1950s. Wee also owned the Ban Leong Group. At that time, there was an influx of immigrants and European businessmen. The then five-star hotel did well and became prominent. It was the tallest standing structure in the Beach Road area, and offered panoramic views of the beach. It was commonly used as a landmark by drivers to locate the lower Rochor vicinity. Tanah Merah MRT station ( ) is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the East West MRT line, East West line (EWL). Located in Bedok, Singapore, the station is along New Upper Changi Road and serves various residential developments, including Casa Merah. Barisan Sosialis (BS), also known as the Socialist Front, is a defunct left-wing political party in Singapore. It was formed on 29 July 1961 and was officially registered on 13 August 1961 by the leftist faction of the People's Action Party (PAP) who had been expelled under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew. The prominent founding members of BS were Lee Siew Choh and Lim Chin Siong. It was one of the biggest opposition parties in Singapore during the 1960s.
