Bud Collyer
Bud Collyer (born Clayton Johnson Heermance Jr., June 18, 1908 – September 8, 1969) was an American radio actor and announcer and game show host who became one of the nation's first major television game show stars. He is best remembered for his work as the first host of the TV game shows ''Beat the Clock'' and ''To Tell the Truth,'' but he was also famous in the roles of Clark Kent / Superman on radio and in animated cartoons, initially in theatrical short subjects and later on television. He also recorded a number of long-playing rpm record albums for children. Some of these featured Bible stories, in keeping with his strong connections with his church and deep spirituality. ''Winner Take All'' is an American radio-television game show that ran from June 3, 1946, to 1952 on CBS and NBC. It was the first game show produced by the Mark Goodson-Bill Todman partnership. The series was originally hosted by Ward Wilson, but is best known for being the first game hosted by Bill Cullen. Contestants were selected from the audience to compete for prizes. Although the game format was very simple, ''Winner Take All'' served as the genesis for many future game-show formats. It was the first game to use lockout devices, and the first to use returning champions. The program was broadcast at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Bill Todman
William Selden Todman (July 31, 1916 – July 29, 1979) was an American television producer and personality born in New York City. He produced many of television's longest-running shows with business partner Mark Goodson, with whom he created Goodson-Todman Productions. Early life Todman was the son of a Wall Street accountant, Frederick S. Todman, CPA, whose accounting firm was known as Frederick S. Todman & Co. and for many years was located at 111 Broadway, downtown Manhattan. The firm represented some of the United States' biggest companies, including the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, Polaroid, Eastman Kodak, and Chase Manhattan Bank. Frederick S. Mark Leo Goodson (January 14, 1915 – December 18, 1992) was an American television producer who specialized in game shows, most frequently with his business partner Bill Todman, with whom he created Goodson-Todman Productions.
