Brian Carr (born 20 June 1969, in Glasgow) is a Scottish amateur featherweight and professional super bantam/ feather/super featherweight boxer of the 1990s and 2000s. Boxing career Amateur career As an amateur he won the 1990 Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) featherweight title, when boxing out of the Auchengeich BC, against John Williams(Pontypool & Panteg BC). He represented Great Britain at featherweight in the Boxing at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, losing to eventual silver medal winner Faustino Reyes of Spain. Super Bantamweight
Super bantamweight, also known as junior featherweight, is a weight class in professional boxing, contested from and up to . There were attempts by boxing promoters in the 1920s to establish this weight class, but few sanctioning organizations or state athletic commissions would recognize it. Jack Wolf won recognition as champion when he beat Joe Lynch at Madison Square Garden on September 21, 1922, but afterwards the weight division fell into disuse. The division was revived in the 1970s and the first title fight in 54 years in the division took place in 1976 when the World Boxing Council recognized Rigoberto Riasco as its champion when he defeated Waruinge Nakayama in eight rounds. The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) is the governing body of professional boxing in the United Kingdom. History The British Boxing Board of Control was formed in 1929 from the old National Sporting Club and is headquartered in Cardiff. Until 1948, it had a colour bar in effect by means of its Rule 24, which stated that title contestants "must have two white parents". The British Boxing Board of Control initially refused to grant Jane Couch a professional licence on the sole ground that she was a woman, and argued that PMS made women too unstable to box. Claiming sexual discrimination and supported by the Equal Opportunities Commission, Couch managed to have this decision overturned by a tribunal in March 1998. Featherweight is a weight class in the combat sports of boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, and Greco-Roman wrestling. Boxing Professional boxing History A featherweight boxer weighs in at a limit of . In the early days of the division, this limit fluctuated. The British have generally always recognized the limit at 126 pounds, but in America the weight limit was at first 114 pounds. An early champion, George Dixon, moved the limit to 120 and then 122 pounds. Finally, in 1920 the United States fixed the limit at 126 pounds. The 1860 fight between Nobby Clark and Jim Elliott is sometimes called the first featherweight championship. Cassius Baloyi
Cassius Baloyi (born 5 November 1974) is a retired professional boxer. He held the IBF super featherweight title twice between 2006 and 2009. Professional career Known as "Mr. Shy Guy", Baloyi turned pro in 1994 and captured the Vacant IBF Super Featherweight Title in 2006 with a TKO win over Manuel Medina. He lost the title in his first defense to Gairy St Clair later in the year, but regained the title by defeating compatriot Mzonke Fana on 12 April 2008. His most recent defense in September 2008 was against Javier Osvaldo Alvarez, whom he knocked down three times on the way to a TKO victory. On 12 April 2008, Baloyi lost his title to Malcolm Klassen when the referee stopped the fight during the seventh round after Klassen overpowered Baloyi. The World Boxing Union (WBU) was a boxing sanctioning body. The original WBU was founded in January 1995 by IBF European representative, boxing journalist, actor and former holder of the title of Britain's heaviest man Jon W. Robinson. It sanctioned boxing with various promoters worldwide. Following Robinson's death in 2004, the organization became dormant and was eventually dissolved. Esham Pickering (born 7 August 1976) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1996 to 2014. He challenged once for the WBO bantamweight title in 2000. At regional level, he held the British super bantamweight title twice between 2003 and 2008; the Commonwealth super bantamweight title from 2003 to 2005; and the EBU European super bantamweight title from 2004 to 2005.
