Brandsnutene or Brandsnutane is a tall mountain on the border of Agder and Vestfold og Telemark counties in southern Norway. It is the second highest mountain in Agder of the mountains with a prominence of at least . The mountain is located on the border of the municipalities of Bykle (in Agder) and Tokke (in Vestfold og Telemark). The mountain has a secondary peak of located about east of the municipal/county border inside Tokke. The mountain sits in the Setesdalsheiene mountains on the east side of the Setesdal valley. It is part of a line of large mountains marking the county border. The mountain Gråsteinsnosi lies a few kilometers to the north and the mountains of Svolhusgreini and Sæbyggjenuten lie a few kilometers to the south. The nearest village is Berdalen, located on the river Otra, about to the southwest of the mountain. The lake Byrtevatn in Tokke lies straight to the east. Bykle
Bykle is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Setesdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Bykle. Other villages in Bykle municipality include Berdalen, Bjåen, Breive, Hoslemo, Hovden, and Nordbygdi. Bykle was established as a municipality on 1 January 1902 when it was separated from the municipality of Valle. The municipality is the 60th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Berdalen
Berdalen is a village in Bykle municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located in the Setesdalen valley, along the river Otra and the Norwegian National Road 9. It is about north of the village of Bykle and the same distance south of the village of Hovden. The small village of Hoslemo and the lake Vatndalsvatnet both lie about to the west of the village. Berdalen has several large mountains located about to the east along the municipal border. Byrtevatn
Byrtevatn is a lake in Tokke Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The lake is located about northwest of the village of Dalen. The main natural influx comes from the river Byrteåi. Byrtevatn has a dam on the south end of the lake which regulates the surface elevation of the lake. Water from the nearby lake Botnedalsvatn flows through a tunnel into the Byrte Hydroelectric Power Station and the water is then released into this lake. Otra
The Otra is the largest river in the Sørlandet region of Norway. It begins in Setesdalsheiene mountains at the lake Breidvatnet in Bykle municipality in Agder county, just south of the border with Vinje municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county. The river then flows south through Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Evje og Hornnes, Iveland, Vennesla, and Kristiansand municipalities. The river empties into the Skagerrak in the center of the city of Kristiansand on the southern coast of Norway. The Otra is long, making it Norway's eighth-longest river. There are many large lakes along the river including: Åraksfjorden, Byglandsfjorden, Hartevatnet, and Kilefjorden. Setesdalsheiene () is the collective term for the mountains to the west and east of the Setesdalen valley in Agder county in Southern Norway. The river Otra flows through the valley between the mountains. This area is primarily located in the municipalities of Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Evje og Hornnes, Sirdal, Kvinesdal, and Åseral. The vast Hardangervidda plateau lies to the north and the Ryfylkeheiene mountains lie to the west. Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Before that time, the area was considered a part of Western Norway. The area was a medieval petty kingdom, and after Norway's unification became known as ''Egdafylki'' and later ''Agdesiden'', a county within the kingdom of Norway. Setesdal
Setesdal (; older name: Sætersdal) is a valley and a traditional district in Agder County in southern Norway. It consists of the municipalities of Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Iveland, and Evje og Hornnes. The Otra river flows through the valley of Setesdal into the sea near Kristiansand. It flows southward from the Hardangervidda plateau in Telemark. The historic Setesdal starts at Evje and extends as far as the farm Bjåen, at the edge of the traditional region of Telemark. Øvre (Upper) Setesdal is in the municipality of Bykle.
