BoxBoy!
is a series of puzzle-platform games developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. The series centres around Qbby, a square-shaped character who can produce a string of connected boxes. The boxes are used to overcome obstacles in stages that Qbby must be guided through. The first game, '' BoxBoy!'', released on January 14, 2015, in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS. BoxBoy! (video Game)
is a 2015 puzzle-platform game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the first installment in the '' BoxBoy!'' series. Players control Qbby, a square-shaped character who can produce a string of connected boxes. The boxes are used to overcome obstacles in stages that Qbby must be guided through. ''BoxBoy!'' was conceptualized in 2011 by director Yasuhiro Mukae, although the game did not enter development until 2013. The core gameplay concept remained the same throughout the title's development, however, changes were made to length of levels and the structure of the game. Each set of stages was designed with a specific theme in mind with the intention of expanding the game's depth by introducing new elements continuously. BoxBoxBoy!
is a 2016 puzzle-platform game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console. The second game in the ''BoxBoy!'' series, the game was released in Japan in January 2016, and in other territories in June 2016. Gameplay Like in ''BoxBoy!'', ''BoxBoxBoy!'' has players controlling Qbby, a box-shaped character who can create boxes from out of his body. Like before, players use boxes to solve various puzzles, such as climbing on ledges, pushing switches, and avoiding obstacles, in order to reach the end of each level. In this game, Qbby is able to create two sets of boxes at a time, allowing for more complex puzzle solving. Players can use medals earned from completing levels to unlock costumes, music tracks, and 4-panel comic strips, and can unlock additional levels by collecting crowns. ''Bye-Bye BoxBoy!'' is a 2017 puzzle-platform game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS. The third game in the ''BoxBoy!'' series, it was released worldwide in 2017. The game was followed by ''BoxBoy! + BoxGirl!'' for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. Gameplay The player plays as Qbby, a box with legs who can create boxes out of his body. The player must solve puzzles using these boxes, which can stay on Qbby or be detached. If they remain attached to his body, Qbby can use the boxes for movement by moving to the farthest box, destroying the boxes in the process. Crowns are placed in every level, and can be collected for an added reward. Jun Ishikawa (composer)
is a Japanese composer who was formerly employed at game company HAL Laboratory. He is best known for composing for the ''Kirby'' series along with Hirokazu Ando. As of 2024, he left HAL Laboratory, although he does intend on continuing to work for ''Kirby'' games as a freelancer. Biography Ishikawa started taking piano lessons aged 3-4, but felt he could never become good at it despite practice. Later, he discovered artists such as Paul Mauriat, Isao Tomita, Kraftwerk, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Brian Eno. He also purchased a Roland SH-2, as he wanted fellow students to get into Tomita's music, but the synth was the cheapest he could afford. Later he attended Nihon University's College of Art, studying film music. As a student, he gained experience with recording and mixing for a theater, while occasionally writing what he considered to be poor pieces of music. formerly shortened as HALKEN, is a Japanese video game developer based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. It was founded on February 21, 1980 by Mitsuhiro Ikeda.
