Bovenschulte Senate
The Bovenschulte senate is the current state government of Bremen, sworn in on 15 August 2019 after Andreas Bovenschulte was elected as Mayor by the members of the Bürgerschaft of Bremen. It is the 25th Senate of Bremen. It was formed after the 2019 Bremen state election by the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Alliance 90/The Greens (GRÜNE), and The Left (LINKE), and was the first government in a former West German state to include the Left party. Excluding the Mayor, the senate comprises eight ministers, called Senators. Three are members of the SPD, three are members of the Greens, and two are members of The Left. Andreas Bovenschulte
Andreas Bovenschulte (born 11 August 1965) is a German lawyer and politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who has been serving as the President of the Senate and Mayor of Bremen since 2019. Early life and education Bovenschulte was born 1965 in Hildesheim and studied jurisprudence at the University of Bremen. Political career In the late 1980s, Bovenschulte served as the University of Bremen’s student council president. From 2010 to 2013 Bovenschulte was chairman of the SPD in Bremen and since August 2019 he is ruling mayor of Bremen. As one of the state's representatives at the Bundesrat, Bovenschulte serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and on the Committee on Defence. Carsten Sieling
Carsten Günter Erich Sieling (born 13 January 1959) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who served as the President of the Senate and Mayor of Bremen from 2015 to 2019. His successor is Andreas Bovenschulte. Political career From 2009 to 2015, Sieling was a member of the Bundestag, where he served on the Finance Committee. During the time of position held, he was his parliamentary group's rapporteur on consumer protection in financial services. Between 2010 and 2013, he was a member of the Sub-Committee on Municipal Policy. From 2012, he also served as deputy chairman of the German-British Parliamentary Friendship Group. Ulrich Mäurer
Ulrich Mäurer is a German lawyer and politician (SPD). He is Minister for the interior in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Life Mäurer studied law at the University in Marburg and Bremen and reached his degree in 1978. He became Assessor in Bremen Administration and worked later in several positions at the law, corrections and interior departments of the state of Bremen.
