Boven Saramacca is a resort in Suriname, located in the Sipaliwini District. Its population at the 2012 census was 1,427. The dominant geographical feature of this resort is the Saramacca River. The resort is mainly inhabited by Maroons of the Matawai tribe. Resorts Of Suriname
The districts of Suriname, ten districts of Suriname are divided into 63 resorts (Dutch language, Dutch: ''ressorten''). Within the capital city of Paramaribo, a resort entails a neighbourhood; in other cases it is more akin to a municipality, consisting of a central place with a few settlements around it. The resorts in the Sipaliwini District are especially large, since the interior of Suriname is sparsely inhabited. The average resort is about and has almost 8,000 inhabitants. Poesoegroenoe
Poesoegroenoe or Pusugrunu or Psugrunu is a Matawai village in Boven Saramacca, Sipaliwini District, central Suriname. The village lies along the Saramacca River and is the residence of the gaanman of the Matawai maroons. Healthcare Poesoegroenoe is home to a Medische Zending healthcare centre. The Pan American Health Organization noted that unlike many villages, Poesoegroenoe remained immune from malaria. Transportation By road A road connecting Poesoegroeni via Atjoni with Pokigron, where there is a connection to the North South Corridor, is currently under construction. According to Lesley Valentijn, the granman of the Matawi, the road should open to traffic in 2016. The road opened in 2017. Villa Brazil
Villa Brazil (also Villa Brasil) is a '' garimpeiros'' (illegal gold prospector) village in the Boven Saramacca resort of the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. Overview Gold was discovered in the Rosebel area in 1879. More than century after, in 2004, a commercial exploitation started at the Rosebel Gold Mines. Illegal gold miners started to exploit the Matawai area near Nieuw Jacobkondre. Villa Brazil was founded illegally by Brazilian gold miners, and contains dwellings for the gold miners and several commercial shops. The village has become known as an area with a high rate of crime. Complaints of the nearby villagers who had rely on a police station in Kwakoegron have resulted the establishment of a police station in Nieuw Jacobkondre in 2014. Kwattahede (also: ''Kwataede'') is a village in Boven Saramacca resort in Sipaliwini District in Suriname. The village is inhabited by Matawai people. The village was founded in the 1880s by Johannes King and is situated in the middle of the river. The village has no school, no clinic, but does have a church. The village did have a school in 1907, but was abandoned during the Surinamese Interior War. It has been slightly repopulated in the 21st century. Heidoti
Heidoti is a village in Boven Saramacca municipality (resort) in Sipaliwini District in Suriname. Heidoti is home to Maroons of the Kwinti tribe. Heidoti had been built as a camp by the Geological and Mining Services, and was later settled by Nicodemus, who moved his family into the hamlet. In 1915, Nicodemus was appointed village chief. Since 2009, Heidoti is home to the Heidoti Tropical Park. Heidoti can be reached by boat from Nieuw Jacobkondre, which has road access to the rest of the country, or from the Cabana Airstrip. Boslanti
Boslanti is a village of Matawai people, Matawai Maroon people, Maroons in the Resorts of Suriname, resort of Boven Saramacca in the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. Boslanti is located on the Saramacca River. Overview Boslanti which translates to Forest Land is located in the Central Suriname Nature Reserve. The village was founded in the 19th century, and consists of a cluster of settlements each inhabited by a different maternal lineage. In 1919, the Moravian Church started missionary activities in the village. From the 1960s onwards, a migration towards the urban area started. The village has a school and a health care clinic is located in neighbouring Poesoegroenoe. In 2020, clean drinking water was provided for the village. Granman (Ndyuka language: ''gaanman'') is the title of the paramount chief of a Maroon (people), Maroon nation in Suriname and French Guiana.
