Boughey Baronets
The Fletcher, later Boughey Baronetcy, of Newcastle-under-Lyme and of Betley both in the County of Stafford, is a title in the Baronetage of Great Britain. It was created on 24 August 1798 for Thomas Fletcher, of Betley Court, Staffordshire, High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1783 and 1789 and Deputy Lieutenant of the county. He was the husband of Elizabeth Fenton, granddaughter of George Boughey, of Audley, Staffordshire whose will provided for his great-grandson (Fletcher's son John) to inherit the Audley estate. In compliance with his great-grandfather's will the second Baronet assumed by sign-manual the surname of Boughey in 1805. He acquired an estate at Forton, Staffordshire where he rebuilt Aqualate Hall. He later sat as Member of Parliament for Newcastle-under-Lyme (1812) and Staffordshire (1820–23). Stanley Boughey
Second Lieutenant Stanley Henry Parry Boughey VC (9 April 1896 – 4 December 1917) was a British Army officer and a British recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Boughey was born in Liverpool on 9 April 1896 and was brought up in Blackpool. He was 21 years old, and a second lieutenant in the 1/4th Battalion, The Royal Scots Fusiliers, British Army during the First World War. He was awarded the VC for his actions on 1 December 1917 at El Burj, Palestine, against the Ottoman Army. He was wounded committing the act, and died three days later, on 4 December. Darren John Boughey (born 30 November 1970) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League for Exeter City, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic. Career Boughey was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme and began his career with local side Stoke City. He broke into the first team towards the end of the 1989–90 season with Stoke already condemned to relegation to the Third Division. He played in seven league matches that season but in 1990–91 he found himself back in the reserves only playing in the League Cup and Football League Trophy. In January 1991, he joined Wigan Athletic on loan where he played twice for the "Latics" and scored twice before returning to Stoke. He then ended the season with Exeter City playing in eight matches for Terry Cooper's side scoring once.
