Boss Brewing
Boss Brewing is a craft brewery in Swansea, South Wales, founded in 2014 by husband and wife Sarah and Roy Allkin. In May 2015 the brewery received a Society of Independent Brewers Gold Award and was awarded CAMRA's Champion Beer of Wales award for its stout in 2019. In August 2019, after applying to trademark its brand name, the brewery received a cease and desist letter from fashion company Hugo Boss and incurred costs of almost £10,000 defending itself in the legal battle. Boss Brewing had to change the name of two of its beers, Boss Black, a stout, became Boss Brewing Black, and Boss Boss, a double IPA, is now Boss Bossy. The rebranding process cost more than £20,000. South Wales
South Wales ( cy, De Cymru) is a loosely defined region of Wales bordered by England to the east and mid Wales to the north. The Society of Independent Brewers (formerly the Small Independent Brewers Association, or SIBA) is an organization representing the interests of Microbrewery, independent breweries in the United Kingdom, UK. Founded in 1980, it was intended to fight the Tied house, pub-tie system, under which large brewers owned 80% of the UK's pubs. It changed its name in 1995 to reflect the changing aspirations of its members, but retained its original acronym. The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is an independent voluntary consumer organisation headquartered in St Albans, England, which promotes real ale, cider and perry and traditional British pubs and clubs. The Champion Beer of Wales is a beer award presented annually by the Campaign for Real Ale at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival in Cardiff, Wales. The award is selected by a multi-tier system. First, individual branches of CAMRA nominate beers that have been in regular, non-seasonal production for at least one year from Welsh breweries in a series of CAMRA-defined categories. The most commonly nominated beers in each category are then presented to tasting panels, with one panel consisting of four to six people tasting each beer in a particular style in a blind tasting.
