Josep Borrell Fontelles (; born 24 April 1947) is a Spanish politician who served as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission from 2019 to 2024. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), he served as President of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2007 and as Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation from 2018 to 2019. Born and raised in the Catalan village of La Pobla de Segur, Borrell is an aeronautical engineer and economist by training as well as a professor of mathematics. Andrée Raymonde Borrel (18 November 1919 – 6 July 1944), code named Denise, was a French woman who served in the French Resistance and as an agent for Britain's clandestine Special Operations Executive in World War II. The purpose of SOE was to conduct espionage, sabotage, and reconnaissance in occupied Europe against the Axis powers, especially Nazi Germany. SOE agents allied themselves with resistance groups and supplied them with weapons and equipment parachuted in from England. Described by author Elizabeth Nicholas as a "towering figure" in the French Resistance, in September 1942, Borrel was the first female agent of SOE to arrive in France by parachute, which also made her the first female secret agent known to have parachuted into enemy territory. Amédée Marie Vincent Borrel (1 August 1867 – 14 September 1936) was a French physician and microbiologist born in Cazouls-lès-Béziers, Hérault. Biography Borrel studied natural sciences and medicine at the University of Montpellier, where he earned his degree in 1890. From 1892 to 1895, Borrel worked in the laboratory of Ilya Ilyich Metchnikoff (1845–1916) at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Here he performed research of tuberculosis, and with Alexandre Yersin (1863–1943) and Léon Charles Albert Calmette (1863–1933), he worked on a vaccine against bubonic plague. With Yersin and Calmette, he co-published the treatise ''Le microbe de la peste à bubons'' concerning the plague bacillus. He is also credited for pioneer investigations on the virology, viral theory of cancer. From 1896 to 1914 he served as laboratory chief of the microbiology course at the Pasteur Institute. Doctor José Borrel Tudurí was one of the last National Chief Scouts of Cuban Scouting. Scouting existed in Cuba itself until the 1960s, when Cuban Scouting ceased operations after the Cuban revolution of 1959. Wilfred II Borrel
Wilfred II or Wifred II, also known as Borrell I or Borrel I (''Guifré II Borrell I'' in Catalan language, Catalan), was List of counts of Barcelona, Count of Barcelona, Girona, and Ausona from 897 to 911, succeeding his father, Wilfred the Hairy, Wilfred I the Hairy. His mother was Guinedilda. Upon his father's death, the patrimony was divided between his sons Wilfred ΙΙ, Sunifred II, Count of Urgell, Sunifred ΙΙ, Miró II of Cerdanya, Miró and Sunyer, Count of Barcelona, Sunyer. Sunyer (the youngest) assisted Wilfred II in the governing of his three counties, as he was a minor at their father's death. Upon Wilfred II's death in 911, his counties passed to Sunyer. Cleopatra Ayesha Borel (from 2005 until 2010 Borel-Brown; born 10 March 1979) is a female shot putter from Plaisance, Mayaro, Trinidad and Tobago and a 2014 Sportswoman of the Year Award recipient.
