Boktykaryn
The Boktykaryn () is a river in Sozak District, Turkistan Region, Kazakhstan. It is long. The river basin is used for watering livestock grazing in the surrounding area. Course The Boktykaryn has its sources in an artesian aquifer area of the western sector of the Betpak Dala. It heads roughly southwards, about to the east of the Sarysu river. The Boktykaryn runs parallel to the Sarysu channel for most of its course until in its last stretch it bends southwestwards, and then again southwards shortly before its mouth. Ashchykol
Ashchykol () is a salt lake group in the Kyzylorda and Turkistan regions, Kazakhstan. Ashchykol is one of the main lakes of the Ashchykol Depression. It is dry most of the year and the plains around the lake are used as a seasonal grazing ground. Geography Ashchykol is located in an arid region dominated by the sor type salt flats of the lower Sarysu basin. It has very indented shores, forming a cluster of small lakes after the flood season that follows the melting of the snows, right before it goes completely dry. The Boktykaryn river has its mouth at the northern end, but its waters rarely reach Ashchykol. In years of sufficient rain the Chu river flows from the east into lake Akzhaykyn, located to the ESE. Sarysu (river)
The Sarysu (, ''Sarysu''; , ''Sarysu'') is a river in Karaganda, Ulytau, Turkistan, and Kyzylorda Regions of Kazakhstan. It is long, and has a drainage basin of . The name ''sary su'' means ''yellow water'' in Turkic languages. Course It arises above Zhanaarka and flows generally westward towards Kzyl-Dzhar where it turns south-westward past Birlestik and Zhanabas, then heading ever-more southerly it ends in the Telikol, across a cluster of small intermittent lakes at the western end of the Ashchykol Depression and to the east of the Dariyaly plain. Ashchykol Depression
The Ashchykol Depression (), is a depression in the Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions, Kazakhstan.Google Earth The village of Taykonyr, Suzak District, Turkistan Region is located in the depression. It is a largely flat endorheic basin filled with mixed sand and clay deposits, as well as sandy alluvial sediments. There are numerous intermittent salt lakes and sors. Sentinel-2
Sentinel-2 is an Earth observation mission from the Copernicus Programme that acquires optical imagery at high spatial resolution (10 m to 60 m) over land and coastal waters. The mission's Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B satellites were joined in orbit in 2024 by a third, Sentinel-2C, and in the future by Sentinel-2D, eventually replacing the A and B satellites, respectively. The mission supports services and applications such as agricultural monitoring, emergencies management, land cover classification, and water quality. Turkistan Region
Turkistan Region, formerly known as South Kazakhstan Region from 1992 to 2018 and Chimkent Region from 1963 to 1991, is the southernmost region of Kazakhstan, bordering Uzbekistan. It had a population of 2,088,510 as of the 2022 Kazakhstan census. The region's capital is Turkistan, formerly Shymkent until 2018. Other cities in the region include Sayram, Kentau, Arys, Shardara, Zhetisai, Saryagash, and Lenger. Artesian Aquifer
An artesian well is a well that brings groundwater to the surface without pumping because it is under pressure within a body of rock or sediment known as an aquifer. When trapped water in an aquifer is surrounded by layers of Permeability (earth sciences), impermeable rock or clay, which apply positive pressure to the water, it is known as an artesian aquifer. If a well were to be sunk into an artesian aquifer, water in the well-pipe would rise to a height corresponding to the point where hydrostatic equilibrium is reached.
