Blue Stars (basketball Club)
Blue Stars is a Dutch basketball club based in Diemen and IJburg, North Holland. The club played in the top tier Eredivisie during the 60s, 70s and 80s. History Blue Stars Basketball was founded in 1947 by Jan Janbroers and is one of the oldest basketball clubs in the Netherlands. The men's team was in 1960 one of the founders of the Premier League and has won several national titles and national cups. IJburg () is a residential neighbourhood under construction in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is situated in the IJmeer and is being built on artificial islands which have been raised from the lake. The Haveneiland, Rieteilanden, Steigereiland and Centrumeiland are already inhabited as of 2004. The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly the Eredivisie, was the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). Since 2021, the league has been replaced by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. The league had a closed system: to participate, a team has to have enough money and potential. The Basketball Cup, for sponsorship reasons the TOTO Basketball Cup and formerly the NBB Cup (), is an annual cup competition for Dutch basketball teams organised by the Basketball Nederland. Every team in the Netherlands can participate by signing up for the preliminary rounds. Professional basketball teams from the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) enter the tournament in the fourth round. From 1977 until 1990 professional teams were not allowed to participate in the competition. The Women's Basketball League (WBL) is the highest level of women's basketball in the Netherlands. The first season was played in 1949. Ton Boot
Antoine "Ton" Boot (born October 16, 1940) is a Dutch retired professional basketball coach and player. Boot is viewed as one of the best Dutch coaches ever, because of his 14 national titles in the Netherlands. The Dutch newspaper ''De Volkskrant'' named him the best Dutch sports coach of the 20th century. Playing career In 1958 Boot won his first Dutch championship with DED Amsterdam.
