Biscari Massacre
The Biscari massacre was a war crime committed by members of the United States Army during World War II. It refers to two incidents in which U.S. soldiers were involved in killing 71 unarmed Italian and 2 German prisoners-of-war at the '' Regia Aeronautica''s 504 air base in Santo Pietro, a small village near Caltagirone, southern Sicily, Italy on 14 July 1943, most likely under U.S Lieutenant General George S. Patton. Background As part of the Allied invasion of Sicily, the Seventh United States Army under Lieutenant General George S. Patton and the British Eighth Army under General Sir Bernard Montgomery invaded the southeast corner of the island on 10 July 1943. Vittoria, Sicily
Vittoria () is a town and in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, southern Italy. With its 64,212 inhabitants, Vittoria is the second most populated municipality of the province after Ragusa. History Vittoria is the youngest town in the province and it presents a modern checkerboard structure, with wide and straight streets. The town's womenfolk are known to still do intricate embroideries, first adopted during the period of Arab rule in Sicily. 157th Field Artillery Regiment
The 157th Field Artillery Regiment (First Colorado) is a United States Army Regimental System field artillery parent regiment of the United States Army National Guard, represented in the Colorado Army National Guard by the 3rd Battalion, 157th Field Artillery Regiment, part of the 169th Field Artillery Brigade at Colorado Springs. The unit was first constituted in 1879 as the 1st Infantry Battalion. In 1917 during World War I the unit was mustered into federal service as the 157th Infantry Regiment, as part of the 40th Division.
