Birds (Life)
''Life'' is a British nature documentary series created and produced as a co-production between the BBC Natural History Unit, Discovery Channel and Skai tv in association with The Open University. It was first broadcast as part of the BBC's Darwin Season on BBC One and BBC HD from October to December 2009 and was written and narrated by David Attenborough. The series takes a global view of the specialised strategies and extreme behaviour that living things have developed in order to survive; what Charles Darwin termed "the struggle for existence". Four years in the making, the series was shot entirely in high definition. ''Life'' premiered on 12 October 2009 in the United Kingdom consisting of ten 50-minute episodes. David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and writer. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, the nine nature documentary series forming the ''Life'' Collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. Peter Fincham
Peter Arthur Fincham (born 26 July 1956) is a British television producer and executive. From 2008 until 2016, he was the director of television for the ITV network. He was also formerly the controller of BBC One, the primary television channel of the British Broadcasting Corporation, until his resignation on 5 October 2007, following criticism over the handling of the '' Monarchy: The Royal Family at Work'' debacle. Early life Fincham was educated at the independent Tonbridge School, and then studied at Churchill College, Cambridge. He joined the Cambridge Footlights production team as musical director, alongside a committee which included Griff Rhys Jones, Jimmy Mulville, Rory McGrath and Clive Anderson. BBC Wildlife
''BBC Wildlife'' is a British glossy, all-colour magazine about wildlife, operated and published by Immediate Media Company. It produces 13 issues a year. ''BBC Wildlife'' was launched in January 1963 as ''Animals Magazine'', edited by filmmaker Armand Denis. In 1974 the magazine was renamed ''Wildlife'', and in November 1983 the magazine joined BBC Magazines as ''BBC Wildlife''. From 1981, and for 23 years, it was edited by Rosamund Kidman Cox. In May 2004, ''BBC Wildlife'' moved to Origin Publishing, which became Immediate Media, and Sophie Stafford took over the editorship after working as a section editor for two years. In 2013, Matt Swaine took over the reins, followed by Sheena Harvey in 2015. The current Editor, Paul McGuinness, took over in May 2019. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in Manchester in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'' and changed its name in 1959, followed by a move to London. Along with its sister paper, ''The Guardian Weekly'', ''The Guardian'' is part of the Guardian Media Group, owned by the Scott Trust Limited. ''Frozen Planet'' is a 2011 British nature documentary series. It was produced as a co-production between the BBC Natural History Unit, Discovery Channel, Antena 3 Television S.A., ZDF, Skai tv and The Open University, in association with Discovery Channel Canada. The production team, which includes executive producer Alastair Fothergill and series producer Vanessa Berlowitz, were previously responsible for the award-winning series ''The Blue Planet'' (2001) and ''Planet Earth'' (2006), and ''Frozen Planet'' is billed as a sequel of sorts. Ted Oakes is a Canadian-born filmmaker and biologist who worked at the BBC Natural History Unit for 20 years. He founded Oak Island Films in 2017 and has been managing director since. Patrick Morris is a British producer, director and series producer of many wildlife documentaries. Life/Career Morris attended King’s College, Taunton, and the University of Leeds, graduating with a first-class honours degree in Zoology. Morris began his career working in East Africa with renowned film-maker Hugo van Lawick producing films for the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and PBS Nova, including ''Islands in the African Sky'', ''Wings over the Serengeti,'' and ''Africa's Paradise of Thorns''.
