Basilius Besler
Basilius Besler (1561–1629) was a respected Nuremberg apothecary and botanist, best known for his monumental ''Hortus Eystettensis''. Biography Besler was born in Nuremberg, Germany on February 13 1561, the son of Michael Besler. His first wife was Rosine Flock, who he married on 31 January 1585. Later he married Susanne Schmidt on 1 December 1596. Altogether he had 16 children. He was elected a member of the city council in 1594. Besler established a pharmacy, ''Zum Marienbild'', at Nuremberg's Hay Market in 1589, and developed his own botanical garden and collection of specimens, for which he became well known. He was curator of the garden ( Eichstätt Garden) of Johann Konrad von Gemmingen (1561–1612), Prince-bishop of Eichstätt in Bavaria. The bishop was an enthusiastic botanist who derived great pleasure from his garden, which rivaled Hortus Botanicus Leiden among early European botanical gardens outside Italy. Nick Besler (born May 7, 1993) is an American professional soccer player. Career College Besler spent his entire college career at the University of Notre Dame. William George Besler
William George Besler (March 30, 1865 - May 20, 1942) was president of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Biography He was born in Galesburg, Illinois, to John Daniel Besler and Anna Chapin. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1880 with a degree in Engineering. He married Effie B Lewis on 10 October 1888. They had three children: Helen Anajane Besler (1892-1989), George Daniel Besler (1902-1995), and William John Besler (1904-1985). His sons, George and William, went on to make the world's first steam powered aeroplane at Oakland, California, on 12 April 1933. Location and surroundings Besler mountain is located on the southern side of the Riedberg Pass, a pass road in the district of Oberallgäu, which connects Obermaiselstein with Balderschwang and further with Austrian Vorarlberg. The mountain lies between the mountain valleys of Lochbach in the south and Schönberger Ach in the north.
